If we are going to tear down people and institutions because of their history why hasn't BLM and friends started on the Democratic Party. The Democratic party more than any other individual or institution ensured slavery continued forcing a civil way which killed hundreds of thousands. Having lost that war for the next 100 years into the sixties they used Jim Crow laws to disenfranchise and disadvantage black people through segregation. The deep south was almost holy Democratic and yet somehow they have "whitewashed" (see what I did there) their history BLM are keen on tearing down statues how about focusing on the party why on earth would any black person vote for that? Now if the answer is because that was a different time and those people are no longer alive and it would be unfair to tarnish today's politicians well that applies to Churchill, Rhodes et al. As for the hated Republicans well that party was founded to abolish slavery and they did although you wouldn't know it today.

Here he/it/xer/helicopter* is, in an earlier incarnation, as a "7th year human rights student". 7 years. Most undergrad courses in the US are 3-4 years.... so a thick wrongun. (note how the article got memory-holed, presumably because it's now fashionable to act like a censorious orwellian fascist on-campus, if you exhibit the correct political opinion) *you get bonus marks for self-identifying as an attack-helicopter these days.

No surprise the media hailing the anti police BLM that 22 officers get injured in a riot in Brixton last night. Not a significant story for the BBC though...

Edited by Willo (25 Jun 2020 1.09pm) It's the main story on the front page of the Sky News site titled "22 officers injured and police cars smashed after street party" with the opening being "Twenty-two officers have been injured and police cars smashed up during "significant disorder" following an illegal street party in Brixton overnight." and second highest on BBC Site with a similar angle. We can both appreciate that it's scummy and criminal behaviour and also that far from being painted as peaceful or not being covered, it's receiving widespread coverage that accurately portrays the disorder.

By mainly black suppressed people. By the violence and disorder on the night it's more the police that were unfortunately being suppressed. We have the opposite problem to the US, they often opt for excessive force over nothing situations, whereas we try to de-escalate or 'community police' our way out of absolutely everything.
