With respect I don't view Sakho's actions in this category. To my mind it was totally irresponsible especially as the referee had issued a warning just prior to the free kick being taken.

I don't see supporters on here slating the players in total, they are just being critical of Sakho for his moment of ill-discipline.

Sakho always flings his arms around to maintain balance and use his strength. It all happened behind him (out of sight) it was unfortunate and I can see why the pen was given but I wouldn't be too harsh. I reckon 50% of referees wouldn't have given that.

I've written a post about the Bournemouth game, which I don't believe was as bad as people are making out, we passed the ball well and were sold until the last 10.

Also have some thoughts on our attacking struggles this season and possible changes going forward.

Anybody agree with me?

3 points in 2 games that stupid mistakes from Sakho have cost us.

We were not good up to the 80th minute. We were pants in the first half.

Let's keep it in the family and swoop for Dean Moxey from Exeter, 2 goals in 5 games.

Well we touched both Hennessy and Cabaye who both did exactly the same thing and they turned out OK

Both expressed a wish not to play in a match because of a possible impending transfer. In Hennessey’s case he hadn’t featured for Wolves that season.

It says "Palace played well up until the 80th minute against the Cherries"

Not really necessary to read beyond that. If I do so I find a dense and long wodge of text full of statistics and you're right - it would take about an hour to digest that lot. I've got a C++ manual here that's less stodgy and expecting me to treat it as evidence that we were decent for 80 minutes last night is insulting my intelligence. I saw the game, we were mostly toilet, pretty much everyone else is of the same view, and trying to massage numbers to "prove" otherwise is bonkers. The only people who can make sensible use of statistics to analyse a game are the performance analysts who monitor the players as they train and play.

It's the sort of stuff American sports journalists write about games they haven't seen.

Just OOI, do you regard the validity of "expected goals" as axiomatic?

I can't understand how any fans are defending Sakho after last night. The bloke is a liability and his luck has finally run out. He has been blessed that he hasnt cost us a lot more goals as every sinle game he gives the ball away in shocking positions because he can't kicka ball straight, he looks like a 5 year old kicking a ball in his daddies slippers.

Tomkins is twice the player of Sakho.
The sooner the better Dann returns.

It was a very disappointing evening all round. RH tactics were wrong in the first half by letting Bournemouth have unchallenged possession up to half way line and beyond. This led to their goal although both Townsend and Zaha were at fault by not tracking back. RH should note Bournemouth’s fitness levels and how they get everybody behind the ball when defending but break in numbers when attacking. Distribution out of defence was poor and Sakho is making too many mistakes and should be replaced and moved on in this January.

"So what is the solution?

Regardless of personnel, I think a return to 4-4-2 will help get the most out of the attackers in this team. Zaha produces much more down the middle and Ayew is struggling on his own. While Benteke is out, I would look to recreate the system at the end of last season, with Townsend and Zaha up front together, with 4 central midfielders across the midfield:

Hennessey

AWB – Tomkins – Sakho – PVA

McArthur – Luka – Kouyate – Meyer

Townsend – Zaha

While Meyer will not drive forward with the ball at his feet as much as Loftus-Cheek did, he is very toidy on the ball and always looks to progress it forward. From what we’ve seen he will link well with Zaha and PVA in terms of short passing. I feel this system also gets the best out of McArthur and frees up Townsend from being stuck on the right wing.

If this system works, then Benteke could find it tough to force his way back in. If not, I would drop Townsend back on to the right wing, and Benteke can replace McArthur."

I agree with this in it's entirety, including the suggested line up and formation. It's just a system that works for us.

If I'm not mistaken, Meyers first 5 minutes as a Palace player were in a left central attacking position where he linked up with Wilf as the left forward and got an assist.

I really want to see him as the forward creative force in the team. If used correctly, the bond he and Wilf could conjure up has the potential to be really special.

He's the type of player you can play in Midfield, and technically he will be sound all game and probably pull a number of classy perfomances out the bag. But if we are really going to get the best out of him, it will be from positions he is able to really create.

Despite the fact I actually think we were pretty poor on Monday, on the whole, its a very good article. Will be sure to keep posted for more in the future.
