Yes, any of those rich teams can play badly, but this forum isn't about them, it's about us. We played badly. And I don't see any harm in saying it even in the wake of a victory. Many said we deserved better from the Watford game. No harm in saying that either. That's one of the great attractions of this game of ours.

On a slightly different point, I wonder whether anyone agrees me that the players' reaction to the final whistle was surprisingly muted. No arms in the air, no sense of achievement, barely even a sense of relief. To me they looked very pensive - as well they might.

I do not disagree with your comment. And in a way you answer my point. They did play well against Watford as they did in a different way, against Liverpool. So whilst they may have played to a lower standard yesterday previous matches and our own knowledge of the players would indicate to me yesterday may have been an off day but even so they still got three points.

Reading some of these messages (and I have not read each and every one) anyone would think their level of play was worthy of when they were in Third Division South, which was when my mum went to watch them!

Criticise by all means but IMO don’t be so obsessively negative - it is not worthy of a positive thinking club!

Always remembering walking from the Holmesdale to the Whitehorse end at half time!

I regret to say that I'm old enough to have watched us in the 3rd Division South myself!

Two minor comments in the thread deserve amplification:

1) We're lucky that Hennessey's hesitation on the missed header didn't cost us. That seemed like an fundamental mistake. His slap-down mishandling of the late-game drive (low and to his left) was also reminiscent of his suspect play prior to the April-May-August run of strong performances.

2) On any broadcasts, was there a good explanation of the disallowed goal? On highlight replays I can't see any reason for denying it.

McArthur backed into the goalkeeper and gave him a subtle little shove. I noticed that he didn't look that surprised when the referee gave a free kick against us.

My thoughts were that as a whole we played poorly and were lucky to win. However, as others have pointed out there are times when we play well and get nothing. So that’s just part of the game and we take the points and move on.
I thought Mooy looked the best player on the pitch (apart from Wilf for the goal which was “Ronaldoesque”). His range of passing excellent as was his delivery into the box. Fortunately for us, anyone that went into the 18 yard box from Huddersfield turned into Christian Benteke. Their finishing was woeful, which belied some excellent approach play.
The relegation picture is already taking shape. Huddersfield will continue to struggle if they can’t score. Cardiff look like they are out of their depth. So one more place to fill which could be anyone from about 10 teams.

How many games did we go last season before scoring our first goal?

I go back to John Sewell et al - but Third Division South???

Just goes through show you can have a long life AND live through the trials and tribulations of not only being an Eagle but a Glazier too!

“Just goes TO show”. Damn iPads!

It is all well and good having the Family Stand and Arthur Waite Stand etc but I suggest Palace should introduce to their new stadium ‘The Old Gits Stand’ :-)

thought I'd let the dust settle before posting my thoughts on the game.

On the whole very very pleased with 3 points, as we should have been dead and buried by half time. I thought our midfield was pedestrian, bereft of any real penetration Townsend was very quiet, and can't understand for the life of me why he left Meyer on the bench when it was clear we needed someone with his craft to give Huddersfield something worry about.

However we won, with a stunner from Wilf and if we can win when we are playing s*** then we should be OK, can't help but feel Roy's cautionary tactics and counter attacking blueprint invites pressure on to our back four, but he's the boss so let's see what happens against Newcastle, who are not a bad side, my worry is if we play like we did against Huddersfield we will get a humping, they won't miss as many chances as Huddersfield.

Not convinced Ayew with Wilf is the answer upfront maybe push Kouyote up top to fight for Wilf until Benteke finds his boots.

who the f*** knows, but I'll be there on Saturday, hopefully grinning from ear to ear after a 3-0 win lol

Me too! First game 1960/61 season aged 4. Taken by my grandad and dad. Johnny Byrne must rank as one of Palace's all time greats.
