This ‘International Clearance’ malarkey. I don’t recall it cropping up when we bought Luka. He signed and then he played. What gives?

International clearance is needed as a `safeguard` when a free agent who last played in another country wants to sign for a club in a different country to the last one he played in. The countries FA's have to look and check details of the contract and in this case because Meyer is being signed out of contract and he is under 23 Schalke are entitled to compensation like Spurs gave us for Bostock.

I know this bloke Meyer is a German international, but £170k a week for a player with NO Premiership expereance. I really find this hard to believe. No way they would offer someone £170,000 a week and be happy that Zaha is not signing a new contract at £45,000 a week less. For team spirit , would be better to pay him a signing on fee and reduced wages.

Is 170k a week really such bollocks if a signing on fee is included to work it out? this bloke has been framed as a greedy world class talent (not saying if he is or isn't). surely if he is that good, and remember he helped Schalke to a comfortable 2nd last season, then SOMEBODY would be willing well above 100k a week? financially, if he's a great player, this does make sense at such a high wage. we'd just have to wait and see regarding team/squad harmony though. Something to consider is we do not know the details of the 170k per week wage. It could be very dependent on conditions and bonuses. Could be as little as 100k with say 70k made up of goal, assist, playing bonuses

Just ensure zaha has a clause in his contract that says his salary will always match highest at club

As much as I hope it’s not true, I get the feeling it probably is. How else would we land such a young talent above all those champions league teams on a “free” who were by all accounts put off by his wage demands. it’s starting to all add up now, although I still believe it’s good business there are several risks.

I very highly doubt he will be on more than 100k let alone 170k. All daily mail did was get a ballpark figure of the total cost of his contract and divide it by 52 weeks. This 35 mil or whatever includes add ons. So loyalty bonuses, goals apps. Etc. You name it. It’s just icing on the cake for him to make the move worth it. With our wage structure I very highly doubt palace would even consider him if he asked for such a wage. That’s pretty much double what he earned at Schalke. So everyone calm your titties, he won’t be the most expensive and probably in the end will end up being cheaper and more worth it than the likes of Benteke
