Thinking positively that point took us above Bournemouth and realistically they should not get anything out of Chelsea away from home tomorrow. It's also unlikely that West Brom will get anything from Man City. Newcastle need to beat Burnley, Stoke need to beat Watford and Brighton need to beat Southampton away to catch us on points. Even if they all win Stoke will be behind us on goal difference and Brighton will need to win by two or more goals to go above us.

Poor tactics from Hodgson going with 4 front men away from home. I thought we would suffer but got through 20 minutes and then a good goal. When the midfield was strengthened it looked more of a unit. 'Respect the point' is a must and hard earned point for the Eagles.

West Ham setup well considering their squad limitations with injuries. They kicked, ganged up and out-muscled and we just seem to struggle when we come up against that. Luka getting booked so early really hurt us I think and the pitch was really heavy which slowed our wingers down. They played like a Neil Warnock team with the new lad adding a bit of class. They didn't really look like scoring, but they earned the point. We were too sluggish and still seem incapable of breaking teams down that sit deep. PvA had a lot of the ball and did nothing with it. Why Man City would be interested in him I have no idea? On the other side of the pitch TFM had an awful game and may well lose his place to Ward. A shame as he has been looking better. Kelly and Tomkins did ok. Townsend was probably one of our best players on the pitch. Zaha just went into hiding after a few strong challenges, plus West Ham were basically sending three players to crash into him every time he got the ball. Bentenke got a goal but struggled in an overcrowded box. Had our crossing been only slightly better he might have had more chances. Aside from the comical throw Wayne had a reasonably good game, with a point blank save and some good handling. The referee was a joke. Sam Byram even seemed to find it amusing how many fouls he had to commit before getting booked. Luka? One foul. Tomkins? One foul. Meh. Poor performance overall and a point we can take and move on. Reasonable assessment of the game TBH, although I thought TFM at least tried to get forward at pace which Ward is not really capable of. TFM reminds me of exactly what he is, a good player not quite up to it just yet. The rest of the team also need to realise that Wilf is being double/triple marked and there is therefore more space elsewhere, unfortunately we don't seem to have anyone else capable of unlocking the opponents defence.

By the sound of things we were saving ourselves somewhat. Wilf's been off the boil for some time now, but perhaps IC not qualifying demotivated him a little bit? Can't really explain his dip honestly. Hope Townsend and sako aren't too bad. I fear we'll have a similar lineup for Newcastle. Perhaps time to give rakip(?) a chance in as a cam if he's looked good in training. I remember we threw in Luka pretty much straight away. Edited by FairweatherEagle (30 Jan 2018 10.12pm)

Did anyone notice that Wilf barely broke into a smile when Benteke scored and Tekkers did his trademark flapping of the ears. There has been enough said on the subject but I just hope he goes in the summer, I've had enough of his "significant contributions" to the team.

Slow start lacking confidence - Hammers played like the away side. When did we last have 60% possession away from home - says it all

Whether we stay up as I hope is entirely up to the way we perform I am sure Allardyce and Hodgson would not be making such assumptions about what other sides may or may not be doing.

Away point, poor game, move on to next game
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

4 games in Jan, 3 away from home, 4 points. Not bad.
