Michael Bridge reporting that Amadou is ‘devastated’ that Lille wouldn’t sell. Footage of him leaving our offices seemed to confirm this.
Will this be five? It's gonna be five! It IS five! |

Yeah, deal wrecked by Lille who have sabotaged this from the start. The hedge fund running Lille are a bunch of shysters and are ruining a great club with a really good stadium. No wonder he's gutted they didn't let him leave. Hard to see how Parish and Co are the ones at fault here.

After alll people on this board are always pratterling on about what a great business man he is, well he didn't see this one coming I suspects

I think SP has to accept some of the blame. If this deal had been done sooner Lille could have found a replacement or had time to get their loan player back. He played with fire and got burned. It’s the player I feel sorry for. Messed around by both teams.

Maybe one day we can get a good deal done long before deadline day , but not with SP and the yanks at the helm

It seems the cash budget was really quite limited to perhaps £10m and we got a new striker in for that. We are not a money bags team. Had we been able to offer Lille £17m cash purchase two weeks or so ago, probably they would have sold him at that price. Sadly we couldn’t offer that and Lille wouldn’t accept £2m or so loan fee now with the rest to follow in the summer. This has still left us with a dangerously thin squad for the rest of the season. Lets just hope we don’t pick up any further serious injuries

In business not every deal comes off. Three of them did. You're clearly not in the business of buying and dealing in high value goods.

However, with the information we have and the knowledge that our transfer dealings have been poor for the last couple of windows (if not more) I am of the belief that the majority of the blame for this debacle lies with us and the basic premise of the 5 p's

OK looks like people are going to be up in arms blaming Parrish for this one going through. It has been apparent, for anyone who has been following this one, that this is NOT Parrish's fault. For those who are coming on and just saying `just give them more money` and `get your cheque book out` Firstly it is nowhere near that simple. We are restricted by FFP as to what we can spend and so the fee was always on the understanding of a fee for a loan until the end of the season and then a fixed payment, which could be made once we had received more incoming funds in the form of finishing position prize money. It was Lille who allowed negotiations to go on and then had an 11th hour change of mind as they could not recall one of their players on loan. Although we always want a signing to come into the club I think it is worth remembering that at the beginning of January neither us as fans nor the club felt a new Defensive Midfielder was the highest priority. The club felt Amadou was a good `extra` to the window. Of course we all want big signings, its exciting for us but not always what is best for the club. Last season we did big business in the January window which did work well for us but this put a strain on our finances in the summer signings and there is a natural legacy of this. We have spent the season concerned with the lack of strength in squad depth and we have come out of the transfer window in a better position than when we went into it. The much demanded need for a striker has been sorted with a young lad with potential. New over and CB and Midfield. The question of GK is still unanswered but I think (As I have said repeatedly) that Guiata is a done deal for the end of the season and personally I think us spending 7-8 mill (Euros) just to bring him in before the summer would be bad business. Yes he might keep us up with some great performances but he is just as likely to come and not be able to adapt or settle.

I believe we acted in good faith as did the player, its Lille who were amateurish on this one and didn't know what they were doing with the loan until the last minute.
