Before the penalty was taken literally everyone around me said the same thing. Benteke shouldn't take the penalty, it will be weak and Begovic will save it.

If 24,000 people have that level of certainty why didn't the players?

Because no leadership at all. I remember his miss against West Ham last season clear as day... never trusted him to take penalties. 3-1 up, then fairenough, but 2-2 against a relegation rival... how Mili ain't taking that, I will never know.

I know, mate, the ellipses were meant to be a bit sarcastic in light of what pundits would say. I should've made that clearer.

Should've had 3 points off West Ham, Everton and now Bournemouth. Utterly ridiculous, and we can't keep going on like this. Second goal was a very good finish, but the first was shambolic/s*** refereeing.

Gotcha.

And I agree entirely. I’m so deflated I can’t tell you.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

We all knew a it would be a weak pen. The keeper knew he would have time to react. I get the feeling Benteke thinks hes one of the clubs best, on paper he should be but his attitude lets him down.

Should be banned from taking pens at the club until he starts to hit the ball not pass it.

Si if his idea of taking the penalty was to help his confidence at scoring where does that leave him now?? By fluffing it so badly his very timid mind will have hit the floor on confidence tonight. Please never let him take another penalty for Palace. Anyone could have made a better job. And where does this leave Benteke? Waiting for some shrink to scrape him off the floor. Great and just to add to it we are now bottom again. Terrible just terrible.

On Twitter

“Hodgson admits Benteke made decision unilaterally and nobody could wrestle ball off him“

We need a goal scoring striker to play alongside Benteke, his shooting has left him so he needs to be the supporting striker to take pressure off him.
I think he is great but he has gone a bit "Torres"
Making him take the penalty was insane, you could see he didnt want to take it....

Are you mad?? He decided to take it himself, we need a striker to play INSTEAD of Benteke, hes crap and just doesnt care as long as he gets 100k a week.....lazy useless finished..

The captain, Sakho, was off the pitch so that control was lost. Presumably Dann took on the captaincy when Sakho went off, hwoever so should have stepped in. If the manager doesn't attempt to communicate with Benteke to say "Give the ball to Milo," then he's at fault too. We probably wont know until the press conference and even then would Roy shame Benteke in public anyway? It was an obvious time for a whack it down the middle penalty and not another stutter to put the keeper off Benteke failure.
