Maybe it's just a 'holding' tactic for next season until Roy's contract runs out and a new manager comes in. No point in spending millions on a striker who the next manager doesn't rate. Not that we've ever done that before........

Always thought he was decent especially the season we reached the FA cup final. If and its a big if can get a run in the team (10-20 games) and score 5+ goals then its a no brainer. especially if its on a reduced deal.

I know, can understand your comment which, I don’t think has happiness behind it but he is a £9.5M asset on the books and no doubt his extension will have taken into account his injury record and set out accordingly with possibly pay as you play?? Who knows but SP and his merry men!

I have just read the news. He is a good player and is only 26. I can imagine the flack SP would get if Potter bought him as a Murray replacement and he scored a dozen goals in his first full season!!

Don't think this is too bad news. Likely to be on much reduced terms, he knows the club and the club know him. If (i understand a big IF) he can get and keep fit he's definitely a good striker to have around. Before his injury he was starting to look really good.

Hard to believe his is still only 26, think when fit he is better than Benteke or Sorloth, not that's saying a lot, who knows he could play a part with a injury free spell, big if though.

The latest news coming from the club is that he's broken a finger signing the contract.

You would have to assume that his basic pay has come down significantly and it is much more heavily weighted in favour of appearance and performance related pay. If it's not, then whoever gave him a contract and insulted Luka with a derisory offer needs shooting. You would hope that the club have assessed that his injury is fully healed and can use between now and pre-season to get him in a position where all his muscles are functioning correctly and strengthened so that the injuries he kept getting as a result of being out for so long are kept at bay.

if Wickham's contract was up this summer he surely would have been released. He's on £55k a week so surely hasn't taken a reduction for next season (as old deal ran until 2020) but extra year maybe more incentive based. As he has barely featured since the Spurs cup game despite supposedly being fully fit (he's rarely been picked for the bench) i feel this is a bizarre decision that has SP written all over it. Why not wait until xmas and see how things stand? Evewn on a free on team will pay Wickham anywhere near the deal he has with us. SP needs to start reducing our wage bill (78%, the highest in the prem) yet most of our players are on contracts until their 30's so there is little wriggle room. Similar to deals for Paddy and Jonny Williams. SP just too nice with CPFC's money
