Anyone thinking that NI is leaving the union anytime soon just doesn't know any unionists from Belfast. as a Southern Catholic ( you call me taig ? ) ....i respect the desire of Unionists to stay in the union. In fact, i welcome it and prefer it to other options. the problem is the population is 50:50 Catholic protestant and the two tribes have different loyalties and interests. the last thing we want is a small disaffected Protestant ethnic group getting all angry and seeking retribution against a Republic they dislike. how about this.... you send all Ulster's protestant population to live in the Eastern Counties. Send the catholics to the western counties of Ulster. Now you have 3 counties which are 99% Protestant British and will always remain so. And the Republic can be as friendly and neutral to yourselves as we already are to England, scotland and Wales. Are the rainy marshes of Fermanagh really worth fighting, killing and dying for ? Take 10 years to manage the Exit. On the dole ? your new home is over there with all your ex-neighbours. Move the Prods to the right and the Taigs to the left. Apart from future football matches, you have nothing to lose. Peace

You are deluding yourself. If it happened you would have war. Not war but intense civil strife a la blood-letting in places like India. It was obvious that as a fighting force during The Troubles that Protestant terrorists/ paramilitaries were very much less sophisticated then the enemy and that was even with collusion from the British Government and RUC. Hence, gangs like The Shankhill Butchers and drug thugs like Johnny Adair running the show. It would be as nasty as fvck no doubt but if Republicans were taken on and tooled up again not for long. Unionists wouldn't accept the change I get that but I am not sure what they could do to stop it.

Boy, such bitterness me thinks. Its precisely the ability (and desirability where appropriate)of being able to criticise our leaders and military etc that sets us apart from totalitarian regimes....another of those traditional British values (like an independent judiciary) little Englanders tend to bang on about in theory but complain about in practice. Bloody Sunday (like Amritsar 1919,the Croke Park massacre,1920, Athens 1944 and Batang Kali 1948,as examples of other instances ) was bad and plain wrong. The day our military (notwithstanding some of the great things it has done) are immune from legitimate criticism is the day our traditional values fly out of the window.. Edited by legaleagle (26 Mar 2017 10.12pm) Well I suppose it is legitimate to criticise if you deem yourself worthy to do so. I have never served in the armed forces so although I can have an opinion, I don't feel qualified to judge the actions of the military in a particular situations.

Yeah, lets just tell the Scottish to raise the English flag over Edinburgh.....It's ok, as Kermy says, there will be some violence but it will die down.

I tell you what though if the 'Independence Ref' was tmorrow i'd certainly say 'go for it' (currency problem notwithstanding) and don't get dragged down with the Brexsh1t decision with the rest of us.

Oh dear, still hoping that Britain falls flat on its face so you can say I told you so. apart from that the latest Polls show Scotland as a country doesnt want another referendum. Furthermore the wee Krankie women is a self serving thunder cnut of the highest order, second only to the truffle pig that is Diane Abbot.
