Al's use of the word transition at the start of the season did sound like, give me more time, after a terrible second half of sesaon league run. It's clear though that he has been trying to change our way of playing and now I think it is right to give him more time and more importantantly give our players more time to adjust to this syle. There will be inevitable mistakes when looking for passes rather than hoofing out wide.
It's better than his talk of encouraging mavericks when first appointed, which seemed to just rely on Wilf and Yala.
Also, obviously. Work on f***ing defending.

..in every game we see periods where we are very happy passing it around and we seem very capable of making opportunities, so I see no reason to change manager, the players on the pitch are themselves responsible for their cock-ups and they are responsible for sorting them out, I reckon about 70% of our defeats with Pardew have been down to player cock-ups.

Personally I thought it was a cracking game. Liverpool were superb, but we gave them a heLL of a game. Dissapointed to let in two goals from corners though.

can "Willo" please explain the diff between the tackle that won liverpool their pen last season and the 2nd tackle on Wilf today that didnt result in a pen for us?

as far as i could see there was more contact made in the 2nd Wilf tackle today than there was on Benteke last season? they both went over yet was wasnt deemed a foul and one was WHY????

The better team won. If we could have started the first half like the second then maybe it would have been a different game? All three were not penalties IMO.

The last two games have been hard to watch but next week's game will be a true mark on if it's time to panic. Personally I don't think we are far off being a decent side. Maybe putting Ledley to left back and brining in Flamini would make us a bit more solid but the lack of pace would be a worry. We really miss Souare that's for sure!

It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye!

Most people can accepts losses, but the way we are not showing any fighting spirit and losing games (in first halves) is worrying. To say the least...

I don't think we will get relegated this season but I think we will flirt with it for some considerable time.
I know it is all ifs - but - AP season 1 - 51 points; AP season 2 - 42 points; AP season 3 - ?????. If it is the same or worse than last season then he will have taken us backwards - it needs to be a lot better for it to be seen that we are moving forwards.
This is just one example of why it isn't working (yet) - Benteke has been trumpeted as the man to score us goals - and I think he can - but he needs proper service and to be deployed where he can do damage - is he?
I think not - why not - ask the Manager.
Staying in the League matters - we all know that.
Are we going to win it anytime soon - no - of course we are not.
Do I expect us to be top 6 anytime soon - no - none of us expect that.
We do however want to see a progression however long it takes.
I think that the Club is progressing nicely - just not sure about the team right now - and that is not to do with the defeat yesterday - Liverpool are bloody good - but we are not doing the basics right and I don't know why.

As much as I like ledley, he has been pretty anonymous lately. Again last night I forgot he was even playing. Far too slow to play agsinst fast quick passing teams.

The thing gets me is why are we starting games so slowly. Most games this season we have played badly first half and turned it around second half. Pardew tells us he has all this technology and data at his fingertips so know everything about the opposition team and tactics. The ayers he apps with the same info, an yet it takes him until half time to sort out his tactics. Or is it a motivational problem. Whatever it is we can't keep starting games so badly.

I thought we looked like a lower division team having a go against a premier league team in a cup game. A lucky goal, Terrible defending, hectic organisation when we didn't have the ball and giving it away when we did. It looked like Holloway team performance. Lots of work to do.

A few points:

1. We still need a decent keeper. One great save from Mandanda but he was at fault for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th goals. You can't stay on your line for headers from 6 yards out.

2. Liverpool pressed us high up the pitch yet we sat back on the halfway line or beyond in the first half and tried to play as an away team.

3. Watch their corners - hit with pace so if someone does get a touch it will fly in at speed. Our corners are floated so the player meeting it has to generate all the power themselves.

4. Now 8 out of 10 games where we've conceded first.

5. Can't believe he took off McArthur with 5 mins to go and brought on Campbell.

6. Disappointed with Benteke - you expect a bit more effort from someone who cost £27m.

7. Need a decent CM to replace Ledley.
