I find it hard to believe an agent and player are trying to negotiate a wage rise a year after his last one signing for Liverpool and failing to succeed there or even get a game there or in the future. It won't happen. The pay rise I mean.

When West Ham were interested in March, they wanted £40k of his weekly wages covered in the deal. £80k is the general ceiling for the middle cluster of Prem clubs. How many you have will roughly determine where you are in the table over time. Cabaye is our highest earner on £80k. I don't know who or how many are on parity deals. If Benteke was nearing the end of his contract after failing at Liverpool there is no way he'd get £120k, let alone a pay rise.

We need to get this over the line soon.

How you get out of that, the player is holding out for higher wages, I don't know. I am confident Parrish will do the best deal possible. Bottom line is, we need a young proven Premiership goal scorer, they don't come cheap.

Isn't Carrol and Benteke similar players? Just like Wickham and Benteke. I don't think we should do this deal for anything more than £25 mill. Even then I'd have my reservations and feel the money would be far better spent on a midfielder/midfielders
