As per my previous posts I am totally underwhelmed by this signing and would rather have not bought at all than buy him.
I did state right back when AP arrived that I wasn't comfortable with his transfer dealings and whilst Cabaye is good and should do well the likes of Mutch etc. are very average and don't improve what we have already. Wickham might be better than Frazier Campbell but that's about all and that to be honest is not much!
I am not happy at all on this one.

I believe you said all that on porpoise just to get a reaction!

Souare and Mutch both apparently played very well in South Africa with Steve Parish claiming the latter was the player of the tournament.

Both these guys will have improved now and be real assets in the coming season. Souare is a proper left footed left back which we desperately needed while Mutch adds strength in depth and will be pushing hard for a starting place. Sanogo was a loan player and Ameobi a stop gap who was only here a few months.

CY Lee is an extremely talented player we picked up for one million pounds whose injury meant he will be like a new signing this year - another more than capable player to have in the squad. The only other real signing in January was getting Wilf on permanently from a loan deal.

Cabaye we all know is a class act and McCarthy is a well respected young keeper with PL experience and will provide good cover for Jules.

Bamford was the league one player of the season last year and has now graduated to a PL first team squad for a mid table team - he is still unlikely to be first choice but will also be wanting to force himself in to the starting eleven.

Wickham is 22 years of age. That is young and he has about five years before he reaches the prime age for a striker. Played in the right position he will score goals but on top of that he will be a handful for any defence.

Really what is not to like by Pardew's signings over the last eight months?

No he wasn't, he was the Championship player of the year, that's a very big difference. Even Zaha didn't win that accolade in our promotion season, so he could prove to be a real asset once he settles in.

It's my age! Changes in the league numbering/naming system leave me confused!

....... My Santa wish list is that Philips comes in from QPR on a player exchange plus cash deal

Funnily enough we are on exactly the same page.

OMG troll alert.

Hardly a troll - really - you should look at people's history on the forum before you start throwing mindless insults around just because you disagree with my point of view - argue you case - it means you have a view too!
I have a different view to you - that's all.
Cabaye I hope will be good - no reason why he shouldn't be as long as he settles down.
Souare - I liked him from the beginning and still do and have posted so.
Bamford - good idea and I hope it works - my Chelsea mates think he is the business.
Chung Lee - no idea whey we bought him
Mutch - he goes missing and flatters to deceive and if you think either of the two above are better than what we have in the same positions at the moment then I disagree - and it is no good talking about strength in depth - he bought them and as is his history he will play them whenever possible which means other better players will miss out.
Alex McCarthy - could be a great signing - I assume Hennessey will be going?
wickham - will be a waste of time, money and energy - my opinion - good thing it is not official yet - at least I don't think so - gives AP time to change his mind.
Just my view - that's al!!

With Tom Ince in second and Wilf third. I remember Vydra's form being crap at the time but vote was done really early in the season.

I think Wilf or Murray won 4-4-2 magazine player of the Championship that season.

As someone who doesn't support a club (I'd loosely call myself an England fan but that's it), I think this might be one of the transfers of the summer. A player who was a Euro u17 player of the tournament, who had a run of goals against elite teams that kept Sunderland in the Premier League, who seems to have physical attributes very close to Harry Kane and for a fee that is being reported at under £10m, with wages likely to be around £60k? If the deal doesn't work, then offloading for about £5-6m in a season or two's time isn't much of a loss, but if he can be used right, if he can be coached to improve the mental aspects of his game (positioning and awareness for example), then the potential of this deal could be massive.

I never understood the reasons why Sunderland used him out wide so often - he can move, but he lacks the short acceleration to beat a decent a fullback and doesn't seem a natural crosser of the ball. He could fill the role better than their other strikers, but still wasn't a good fit. It didn't help him develop, didn't contribute a great deal to the Sunderland performances and seemed like it was only done because they hoped he'd occasionally have a moment of magic.

All tranfers are a gamble, but my instincts on this one is that this will be very good for both the player and Palace
