I keep banging on about it - keep Murray and give him the chance to be that man.
Austin is not what we want and he is lazy as well.

Absolutely. He's basically already proved he can be.

I initially thought the same...but now the more i think about it and check out stats etc, his (Austin's) goals per game ratio is very impressive at every level.
i say...get him in!

Think there are much better out there for the type of money being banded about to be honest.

Yes he is very similar to Murray but as has been pointed out age is on his side. Also I would argue we do not need the fast striker than can take people on. With Cabaye pulling the strings putting balls through for the pace of Wilf/Yannick all I want a striker to do is be in the right place, he has shown last season that he is good at doing that.

I would cast glances towards the foreign market too, maybe Austin is being used as a smokescreen for one of our other targets who knows. If he does come I will back hiim 100% and I reckon he will score a good few goals in a palace shirt

Nope, have to disagree.

A proven, top class striker that would sign for us (as opposed to bigger rivals) for £15m is a very rare thing.

17 Premier League goals in a terrible team, 26 years old and English.

You will struggle to name a better alternative (Remy perhaps, but he's off to Turkey).

As I have pointed out before, Austin mirrors AJ in many ways. You could have written exactly the line above about our former hero -- 20 Premier League goals in a terrible team, mid twenties in age, and English. Off he went to Everton, injuries notwithstanding, never to hit close to the same heights again. I'm not saying Austin wouldn't keep scoring or isn't capable of further improving but I am saying the above line is a poor justification for believing that's he the answer for us. Premiership history is replete with one year wonders.

Sydenham by birth. Selhurst by the Grace of God.

AJ wouldn't lace austin boots mile apart in ability yes AJ scored 20 goals that season but how many of them were penalties 11? austin only scored 2 from the spot last season and still got 18 goals

I wouldn't say our 2004 prem team was terrible as you described. We gave it a good shot and should have stayed up to be fair.

What ??? Blasphemy ! Heresy ! Crap !

Sorry mate but no way, AJ had much more to his game, Austin is a good target man finisher but AJ played a pacy game off the shoulder and could do it as a lone striker too as he often did that season ! Regards his penos he won a lot of those himself you know so he was in goalscoring positions anyway before being fouled.

They're 2 very different strikers but I think AJ was better all round, I loved nothing better than seeing AJ being put through on goal, him outpacing the defenders and that feeling of inevitability you got before he stuck it in the onion bag and then we launched into a bout of der-der-der Andy Johnson !

all im saying is take the 11 penalties away (which still stands as a record today will never be beaten) he got 10 from open play austin got 16 from open play and they were not tap ins from 5 yards out some of austin goals were world class austin has already scored 66 more goals in hes career and still only 26 years old he will double whatever AJ total ends up with austin is light years ahead just a higher calibre player fact

Injury's ruined AJ's career we never got to see what he was capable of after that Knee blowout.

Very true sadly. He does leave us with great memories though. Put AJ through on goal, just outpaced defenders, and straight into the goal, orba pen. Magic.

Hopefully Austin will give us his share ofbgreat goal moments too!

Yeah but to be fair he won most of those by showing up defenders with his pace and ability. Superb player ruined by injuries. A poor man's Michael Owen but with added heart and soul.
