With what will they build? I would like to know who you think would come and work with the squad we have and the Academy in its infancy. I'm not saying Hodgson should stay, only that whoever the manager is next year, he isn't going to have much more than Hodgson currently has with which to work. Progress will be slow. For me it's a question of whether we can survive long enough for our Academy produce players who will either make a difference for us or who can be sold for a decent price once they've proved their quality, to help our rebuild.

For a club our size we really do need to start producing or buying more players with the potential to turn us a tidy profit. I imagine the AWB money is the only reason we have Eze, who at the moment looks like a fantastic acquisition. The signings of Ferguson and Mateta also point in the right direction, while Mitchell is getting games under his belt.

What I would love to know is how much say Roy has in the club's signings. He seems to put a lot of distance between himself and the decision to sign players, which if it is the case could be an issue for any new manager. Also, if it is Dougie & Co taking the decisions then are they buying players to fit a certain style, and if so perhaps that would point to the type of manager we will eventually look for.

Whatever anyone thinks of Roy staying on as manager, at 73 he is not the long-term option.

Aged squad in the twilight of their careers and many unable to cope with the rigours of PL football any more.
No Sell-on value and without any injection of significant monies for younger, more energetic players the prospects of survival in the PL are not encouraging.
Not a good selling point to try and attract an alternative to Mr Hodgson.

Every time someone mentions our aging squad, I wait for your comment . You never disappoint. Why not just cut and paste.

When we have the ball you can clearly see we try to move forwards, albeit very very slowly.

Moving that slowly is never going to hurt anyone.
The one exception to my comment was against wolves when he moved eze to no.10 and put wilf wide. It gave us more attacking threat through the middle and an extra man in centre midfield. Worked well, team looked much more balanced, played some good football and won. Has he played that system again since? No, back to 442 with no penetration through the middle and overrun in midfield.....

I readily admit that I have been expressing concern about our aged squad for some time and can rightly be accused of great bouts of "Tautology".
Outside HOL, some chap mentioned that on this subject I was akin to a "Gramophone record stuck in the groove".
I do believe that my fears have come to pass as witnessed by our recent performances.

don't know. Cant think of anyone who would want to come and manage a London premiership football club and earn 4.5m a year.

Non-Palace fans wouldn't know what a lot of Palace fans have had watch over the years. Eight continual years of Premier League football, even now, is light years ahead of that. But the plastics wouldn't know that. It's not the truth that hurts but the continual bitching and moaning and denigrating our club is a different matter especially from our own so called fans.

so we should all clap along and pretend everything is ok then? We're not in North Korea mate. There's nothing wrong with calling out that things have ground to a halt and we're starting to roll backwards.

The football we're seeing now is poorer than many of the better years in the Championship - even when we lacked technical ability we had players with desire, fight, togetherness, pride etc (granted there were some truly dismal years as well). As you're clearly a longtime fan, you must also remember being entertained at Selhurst. Remember, when it used to be enjoyable or you could at least appreciate that we were trying to have a go/win a game?

But it's ok because we've been in the Prem for 8 years. Hmmm.

Your reference to North Korea is puerile at best, come up with something better. I have not said we should be happy clappy at all. However when I read a lot of this forum especially a match thread where we go a goal behind and read some of the vitriol that is spouted against the players and the Manager of the club I have supported since a boy I have to question whether they are real fans at all. Reasoned criticism is different to the continual bitching and moaning that goes on. FFS
can't people enjoy watching when we can see world class players even if they are on the other side. Yes there were exciting times in the past when we winning 9-2, 9-0, and watching Johnny Byrne in action. But those days are long gone and we have to live in the present and the reality is we are in the top league in Europe with teams awash with money and huge stadiums and it's not easy without the big money men to get us where we would all like to be. Meanwhile we are 13th in this league with 29 points so we can't be as bad as all that or we would be below Sheff Utd and propping up the league and heading for the Championship.

I doubt very much anyone involved in the club is very impressed with the situation as it is now, the time has arrived now to do something and I'd be amazed if at this stage next season everything as we see it now is exactly the same, the powers that be must be aware of our plight because if not we are most certainly going to be involved in a nasty relegation fight and our problems will follow us into the Championship if we go down.
It makes only sense to make available funds to strengthen our squad this summer.

I feel Frickin Saweet isn't moaning about what you think he is moaning about, if we were all at the stadium I'm sure SP would be feeling the heat along with FS helping it.

Personally I thought that Eze wasn't particularly effective when he played centrally against Wolves with his back to goal and lack of space around him but came alive when he drifted deeper and to the left.

To be honest the whole number 10 obsession people have feels like a bit of myth. I've not been aware of many Premier League teams, particularly as average as us, having the luxury of an advanced midfield player in a free role drifting around for a while now. Chris Coleman seemed to underline this in his comments on Sky after the game on Monday.

Quite true also Wolves on the day were well below the Wolves that had thrashed us on and off the ball in the last two to three games, they showed me brilliantly the difference just three players make when they're missing.
