He could but if the point was being directed at the way Bond is to be perceived then he wouldn't.

For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally.

The point is that James Bond is a White character. In the same way John Shaft is a Black character. Why change either?

Tell that to the depiction(s) of Jesus.. Is there any race he hasn't be depicted as yet logically he wasn't black or white.

Sounds like a sensible stance. There are tonnes of changes between the Bond movies and books that people appear to not care a jot about, but then when it comes to race, it's panic attack time. As you rightly say this is modern Britain (people could arbitrarily take issue with the fact that the books are set in the modern day too) and so someone like Idris Elba playing the role - something that's very unlikely to happen now anyway - should hardly send eyes spinning.

I get the gripe about everything having a modern take nowadays, but at the same time I doubt those with that stance ever took issue with white characters playing non white roles in the past, something that was hardly unheard of previously. As is the ebb and flow of life. For those offended by the present over the past, there's plenty of movies and series from the past to return to. I myself am partial to a bit of bra pinging à la On the Buses from time to time.

The weirdest/best guess I have on this is that Daniel Craig Bond will have been cloned into an evil Bond from a single strand of his DNA. There'll be something missing, like emotion or something.
The new 007 will have licence to kill him. Only in the death scene will the evil Bond Craig Clone cry.
Just a weird guess. We'll see.

And obviously logic as no part to play or the Bond from Dr No would be over 90. Maybe he'll be like Kenny from South Park and get killed in every film. Or become a horse and win at Cheltenham using rocket powered hooves.
