Aged squad in the twilight of their careers and many unable to cope with the rigours of PL football any more. this is where mindset comes in and why some leaders are able to come in and make an impact where others don't. I suspect that Hodgson sees things as you do and as such sets a low bar of expectation for himself. Others with a more positive outlook and new methods will see the opportunity in the project to build something great over time.

TP, a question please.... what mistakes do you believe Roy has made generally? He has made plenty just like every other manager has, the problem we have though is that with good quality players they are more able to win the ball back hence the same teams always in the top six or seven now, Mr Hodgson has a good understanding of football and that is very obvious, he has the understanding though as of similar managers of his age which is extremely natural, how do you feel Sam Poltergeist is doing at WBA?

I think Roy's biggest problem, is that his first thought (whoever we play) Is how can we stop them, and never how can we hurt them... When we have the ball you can clearly see we try to move forwards, albeit very very slowly.

That's incorrect, that is just your opinion, others have differing opinions. There are many, many managers in world football, plenty would have got us relegated this season, or the last, or the one before that but equally there are also some who could get more effective results and performances out of this team. You seem to want to focus solely on the performances of the players/ state of the squad and not the manager's performance when it is not a case or one or another, they are both critical factors. Nobody has ever 'won football', no player, manager, chairman, team etc etc. It makes me laugh when people say 'I know more about football' or 'You clearly don't know anything about football', I dare anyone to define the parameters of what constitutes 'knowing more about football'. You're entitled to your opinion, as are others, doesn't make anything fact. We are not near or in a relegation position, which is basically a miracle with our squad as a whole.

the truth hurts does it? Even non-Palace fans are starkly aware of our plight. Non-Palace fans wouldn't know what a lot of Palace fans have had watch over the years. Eight continual years of Premier League football, even now, is light years ahead of that. But the plastics wouldn't know that. It's not the truth that hurts but the continual bitching and moaning and denigrating our club is a different matter especially from our own so called fans.

Rebuilding the squad is a given strategic priority, required because a) too many contracts ending at the same time and b) the squad is old and tired. The first issue is frankly poor governance at the board level, its not as if it wasn't obvious and it is miss-management of the highest order. Nothing to do with Roy. Secondly, I can't see how we are going to attract decent talent to come to Selhurst Park and play for us, based on our current style, if that talent has other suitors. Having said that we did land Eze, but repeating that success is going to challenge Dougie and crew. Some of that is down to Roy & Ray. If Wilf leaves, we become even less attractive for a decent player to come and hone his craft One of the reasons we have such a high wage bill is because we have to overpay the likes of Big Ben and Mama to get them here in the first place. I'm sure that none of this is lost on Parish, but bringing in young talent will require a more exciting approach on the field, otherwise we will get the leftovers at a high cost all over again!
