OK so lets go back to the basics of this thread , Roy out ! If he goes at the end of the season , new manager and hopefully rebuild .
Some of you say no keep for another year , then he goes and rebuild or do we trust him to the rebuild this summer!
He will go at sometime and I personally feel with the team as it is now a new manager is needed as soon as we are safe from relegation and begin to sort out the team for next season.
I hope Roy does not hang on and force the issue of his leaving and stands aside with grace and dignity and the thanks from us all for the work his has does over the last few years.

I have heard it opined only the other day that with survival secured, Mr Hodgson might feel it is a good time to retire rather than continue next season with several aged players still at the club and the prospect that he could well be shown the door due to poor results. He would not wish to leave the club and retire in these circumstances.

Whether or not Roy calls it a day, and whoever takes the job. Just getting a new pair of hands to manage. Is only half of the story.
Because we have an ageing squad, that is year by year getting older and less able to keep up with the more mobile requirements of the game going forward.
Even Wilf, is about to go past his peak, the back line barring Mitchell, and VA is close to finished, the mid field mainly past their peak.
A new manager has got to happen soon, but it needs a lot more than that to happen if we are not to go backwards and rapidly.

Aged squad in the twilight of their careers and many unable to cope with the rigours of PL football any more.
No Sell-on value and without any injection of significant monies for younger, more energetic players the prospects of survival in the PL are not encouraging.
Not a good selling point to try and attract an alternative to Mr Hodgson.

I think Hosea would've been more apt. Now he was a "Prophet of Doom".

I think it is more a combination of the two. Many of the squad are in their twilight years and this season we have been beset by injuries. However, how many years of consolidation do we want at the expense of entertainment? Yes it is important we remain in the PL, but the way Roy has us play, even when there is nothing to play for (like at the end of last season) is becoming really hard to watch. Even if we signed a few high-quality players in the summer I have no confidence that Roy would have us playing better football.

I think many people, myself included, just want to enjoy watching Palace again, something which has been gradually disappearing in the last two years. Any entertainment we do get is purely thanks to the individual brilliance of Eze and Zaha by and large. It is not necessarily about playing great football as much as creating chances and having a go

It is a really hard decision for the board as Roy is probably one of the few managers left who almost guarantees you PL football each year, but I increasingly myself asking at what cost.

I've wrote before saying that he was initially brought in to stable the club after the problems we had with De Bore who also discovered the quality of the squad was no where near anything he hoped leading to the breakdown with the players and that was four years ago! Mr Hodgson was not intended to be the one to bring this exciting football we all want that as I've also said before will fall into the hands of the next manager but only when we are able to afford him and the players he needs to be able to to achieve this, meanwhile our managers job is going to continue getting worse and worse until he can not save us.
I feel very sad for him.

I flip-flop with Roy as the idea of letting him go feels akin to putting your parent in an old folks home. He has been very well paid to keep us stable though, so I think we have to put sentimentality aside. Whether we can attract someone worthwhile to replace him though could well rest on our ability to fund new signings. It might even be possible that the board will look for someone who is willing to try and integrate more youth players into the first team, rather than offering a big transfer kitty (I'm not saying that's feasible, just positing the question).

A great deal of uncertainty there is (as Yoda might say).

And he’s only on £4.5m a year - it must be terrible for him at the moment
