It was certainly his take on modern history. In an essay he wrote in 1942 concerning his experiences in the Spanish Civil War, he says: "I remember saying once to Arthur Koestler, 'History stopped in 1936', at which he nodded in immediate understanding ... I saw, in fact, history being written not in terms of what happened but of what ought to have happened according to various 'party lines'." Which is miles away in meaning from the misquote you quoted. It actually supports what I am saying. That history means different things to different people. So do you admit you were wrong? Or now claim to know what he might have said?

It isn't only to do with the director. There is also funding and convincing a production company. For sure, although some feel so passionately about their work they try to produce it themselves, sometimes in small venues.

What I know is that you are just another example of the gullible on the right being swept up by a conspiracy theory which justifies their xenophobia. They have existed for at least 90 years in Europe. It's certainly not great, but it is only a theory, and a deeply flawed and extremely dangerous one at that. Although the data here concentrates on the USA, the reasoning applies just as accurately to Europe.

Such productions do get made though, so obviously there is a demand, or they wouldn't get the funding. You might not want to see them, but enough do to get them on.

Until we all start actually start behaving as though the concept of judging people by the content of their character and not by the colour of their skin means something, we are destined to see division where there is none. It's happened, almost, in football. Or at least better than in other areas of life. Why not elsewhere?

Or now claim to know what he might have said? My Uncle Bert ran a bakery and Eric Blair came in and ordered a cake with “Down With Big Brother!” to be iced on it. Albert declined the order on the grounds that the message was discriminatory against elder bros, racist and sibling-phobic.

I would suggest the organisations such as The National Black Police Association and MOBOs have served their purpose, run their course, and now are forming divisive barriers, rather than bringing them down
