Greece or Italy can never leave the EU but I bet they wish they had never joined. Warning bells were going on the UK economy well before Covid, Brexit and Ukraine. All Covid, Brexit and Ukraine did was provide a useful basket of excuses, none of which could be isolated as responsible (although contributed) to the failing UK economy

I wouldn't disagree with that statement Forest.

Biden isn't some sort of master statesman. He's a doddering old fool who can't find his own way in stage to misread his cue cards. It's that kind of perception of him which means he won't be the Democrat's choice.

Is your contention that they'd be doing better outside the EU? If so then why shouldn't we? No, it's my contention that they would probably be much worse off, just as we are. Our experience will serve as a lesson for others.

Greece or Italy can never leave the EU but I bet they wish they had never joined. Events like Covid and the war happen, and effect everyone. Brexit had no need to happen and affects mainly us. We shot ourselves in the foot, just at the time when we were about to catch a nasty disease and have to support a friend in trouble and find our costs rising. The EU doesn't take people "along for the ride". It's not sightseeing trip. The EU provides the strength that goes with being a united and large market. It provides security and a voice at the biggest tables. In today's world it just makes more sense than relying on the model that served us during our imperialistic past. We need to erase the idea that we can recover what we have lost. Right now we are close to being laughed at, which is very sad.

Steeleye - I don't often agree with you but I do think they have made an absolute pig's ear of the last few months and as a government they are screwed and should give up now. Edited by The Dolphin (18 Oct 2022 3.35pm)

There was a BBC radio documentary about Britain's Financial sector (London) recently (I'll have to google it).

I thought that quote was in reference to her residence at a mental health facility.
