Greece or Italy can never leave the EU but I bet they wish they had never joined.
Their economies have always fluctuated wildly but by joining the EU they got bailed out and now have a debt that they can never repay.
Germany (and France) want everyone along for the ride and will do whatever it takes to keep them there.
Only a Country with a strong economy can get out really - ours was strong but covid and a war have dealt with that!

Certainly, how we chose to respond to them did.

Warning bells were going on the UK economy well before Covid, Brexit and Ukraine. All Covid, Brexit and Ukraine did was provide a useful basket of excuses, none of which could be isolated as responsible (although contributed) to the failing UK economy

I wouldn't disagree with that statement Forest.
Ours has not been in a good place for a very long time through successive Governments who because of elections have always worked on a short-term basis rather than plan for the long term.
The NHS is an example of how short-term thinking can f*** something up and until those in power think about their country and not themselves it will ever be thus.

It's that kind of perception of him which means he won't be the Democrat's choice.

Is your contention that they'd be doing better outside the EU? If so then why shouldn't we?

No, it's my contention that they would probably be much worse off, just as we are. Our experience will serve as a lesson for others.

Or maybe he will.

Events like Covid and the war happen, and effect everyone. Brexit had no need to happen and affects mainly us.

We shot ourselves in the foot, just at the time when we were about to catch a nasty disease and have to support a friend in trouble and find our costs rising.

The EU doesn't take people "along for the ride". It's not sightseeing trip. The EU provides the strength that goes with being a united and large market. It provides security and a voice at the biggest tables. In today's world it just makes more sense than relying on the model that served us during our imperialistic past. We need to erase the idea that we can recover what we have lost. Right now we are close to being laughed at, which is very sad.

Wisbech - I could not disagree more.
Germany and France want an EU state that primarily serves them - that is not just my opinion but it has been thus in the eyes of many more educated people than me for tens of years.
It is nothing more than controlling.
We will prosper in due course without them, of that I am sure.
The punishment for Brexit was China delivering a virus and Russia delivering a war.
No surprise that two dissatisfied communist countries decided to punish everyone for the sheer audacity of it.
Conspiracy theory maybe but too much of a coincidence in my eyes.
And back to the EU itself - Germany tried to take over Europe - and us - twice and failed, so then they tried - and still are trying - to do it in a different way and they don't like it when it works against them.

Same old Tories, bankers bonuses to stay.

Pension triple lock Truss 'no longer committed' after backing it 2 weeks go.

Steeleye - I don't often agree with you but I do think they have made an absolute pig's ear of the last few months and as a government they are screwed and should give up now.

There was a BBC radio documentary about Britain's Financial sector (London) recently (I'll have to google it).
TO summarise a very complex issue, the British bankers have been laundering 'dirty' money for decades as a nice-little-earner. This is why the banking sector has largely been un-checked.

I thought that quote was in reference to her residence at a mental health facility.
