Actually what ‘support’ do they really need apart from us following the rules coming from cabinet? My grievance is with the MP’s you just know are going to start claiming far more than is necessary to cover the costs of working in an open plan kitchen or already set up office. What are they going to need? The finest ergonomic desk chairs from Harrods? They also won’t need any travel expenses they will have previously been claiming. It’ll be blatantly taking advantage. Stop spouting the usual misinformation If it bothers you, check it. Those I have checked barely claim anything

I don't spend 1/1000th of my life "defending and building up the elitism of MP’s." A concept I believe is a myth in the first place. That some MP's abused the system in the past is a matter of record. Which is why the new rules and oversight was introduced so that it cannot now happen. You are very clearly so cynical about the work that MP's do that you are prepared to think the worst in every situation. As I have now said several times I don't think that many, if any at all, will be claiming anything. I already pointed out that as their travel expenses will now be nil their overall expenses claims are likely to be much lower now. All this is is a new line to cover a new situation. Nothing at all to be seen.

It remains to be seen but as these funds are available until next March and come with a relaxation of the evidence required for purchases it seems possible they’ll claim a chunk.

They will only be relaxed enough to solve otherwise impossible situations, just as they are everywhere at present. If they buy anything then a receipt will surely be demanded along with the justification. With a pack of hungry news hounds ready to scavenge in MP's dustbins for any scrap that could be splashed as a scandal on the front pages I don't think I would be doing anything that could be seen as anything less than pristine in it's purity.

Moving on, nothing to see here. I agree.. Watching the BBC lunchtime news a couple of days ago and the newsreader was interviewing a doctor about PPE shortages and she didn't seem to like his response that there weren't any shortages in his area and kept on and on about alleged shortages without getting the response that she obviously wanted to hear. The government receive a lot of criticism for the lack of PPE mainly whipped up by the media yet Matt Hancock isn't the purchasing manager for the NHS as they have their own huge and inefficient department to handle that but they have received no criticism at all. A friend of mine runs a sourcing company in China and he has been sourcing equipment for NHS for years yet whenever he sources medical equipment he doesn't get any reply. He sourced 300 ventilators which he offered to NHS but after waiting 4 days without any response at all he offered them to Portugal who bought them all within hours. There are rumours that some in the NHS purchasing departments are trying their hardest to deflect the blame from their own inefficiencies by blaming the government for everything whereas a lot of the shortages are down to themselves. Hopefully a full review of NHS purchasing practices will take place after this is all over as it doesn't appear to be fit for purpose

As per my last post why is that the Government's fault. An NHS boss has warned the number of protective gowns available to front-line staff in parts of the country has become "critically low" in recent days. Chris Hopson, chief executive of NHS Providers in England, has called for a "more sustainable supply" of gowns, which are imported from China. Who is he warning as it's his own employer who is supposed to be buying the equipment as per their own website:- NHS Supply Chain manages the sourcing, delivery and supply of healthcare products, services and food for NHS trusts and healthcare organisations across England and Wales. Managing more than 4.5 million orders per year, across 94,000 order points and 15,000 locations, NHS Supply Chain systems consolidate orders from over 800 suppliers, saving trusts time and money and removing duplication of overlapping contracts.

It's somebody's job to do that and I would like to hear from them. Where I do hold the government to account is the overall procurement process which I suspect is complex and cumbersome.
