I watched the last 30 mins of the debate, the votes and the hour or so afterwards. I was not surprised at the results and quite impressed at what seemed like genuine attempts to find compromises so there could be a way forward. Bercow was outstanding and explained why Johnson had no option under Parliamentary rules other than to take the action he did. It seems that the government is now much more open to sensible amendments which reassure those worried about certain aspects of it. For instance it committed to giving Parliament the right to be involved in whether more time will be needed at the end of next year to conclude a free trade agreement, thus removing the threat of a crash out then. Until we know how long an extension is offered (and yes I am pretty sure that one will be offered) what happens next is unknown. I have some theories but will keep them to myself for the moment. Finally. Proof that you are a Labourite. No one else uses that stupid phrase.

It sums up the effect of leaving in a disorderly way pretty neatly. At least for most open minded people.

It appears that Johnson is now going for a 3 month extension and a GE. Ken Clarke asked the government to continue with the bill whilst they sorted out the timetable. Whilst this seems reasonable on reflection I think Johnson is right to suspend it. Even when agreement is reached over a new timetable those who oppose the bill will just find further excuses to delay or alter it as it went through the house. Yesterday's vote for the bill was actually a clever tactic by Remainers. They can now say to the voters that they supported the bill in principle. The reality is that the key vote was the timetable and that shows the actual feeling of the house. Johnson has concluded rightly I think that this Parliament will agree nothing. Time for a GE the public can then back the party they feel closest to their view on Brexit.

WE takes a lot more smears and abuse than he gives. I’m surprised he still has the patience to be honest.

This is an important article from Peter Oborne. You can see multiple examples on this thread of people that have been sold by the ‘information’ being leaked from Number 10 and being printed unchallenged by the press, and swallowed by the general public.

Exit brexit, pursued by a bear...... Some more sabre-rattling but mostly hot air. Under Johnson's deal you may as well move your office to Brussels.

Of course, such activity never happened under the last Labour government, did it?

An interesting article indeed and I suppose that it's all part of the times that we live in although I'm not sure that your comment that it's all swallowed by the general public is true. There are a number of times when Boris has got something wrong and the journal that you linked to as well as lefties on HOL refer to those instances as lies yet when Diane Abbot gets something wrong it's never lies but stupidity or some such other epithet

If it happens the tory election manifesto should be the shortest document ever recorded. Pages 1-99 will read 'Corbyn is a marxist'

Labour spokesperson Shadow Justice Secretary has just said Labour will agree to a GE if the extension is 3 months. C'mon EU put us out of our misery.
