So it's just a question of deciding on their decency based on the image they present when trying to get elected. That's pretty straightforward.

No, you take the time and make the effort to look at their record and judge what their motives are.

You might not have intended it as an insult but I regard it as one.

I am perfectly capable of separating what’s best for me from what’s best for the country. It’s like the idea that where I happen to live means I am incapable of thinking or travelling. Which is what one regular poster here seems to think.

I have run businesses. I know full well the stresses that can bring. So rather than be unaffected I am able to understand that rather better than, say, a schoolteacher. I owned a nursery. I have grandchildren and great grandchildren at schools and university. Do you think I was unaware of the impact on them?

I am sure that you are capable of understanding what is best for you and what might be best for the country and you chose what was best for you - nothing wrong in that as we all do this from time to time.

They having access to expert opinion and detailed analysis and whose job it is to study the issues.

You probably read the Sun or the Mail. Or watch GBNews.

I think I know who I trust!

Hah! They might just as well consult a fortune telling pig.

By the way I read/watch none of the organs you mention - I do subscribe to the Spectator though.

None of us chose anything. What I did was support what was done because in my opinion it was done because the action was decided by those best placed to consider it. Not by bar room experts pontificating from prejudice. It also matched my own view of what was best for the country. What was best for me personally never entered my mind. I have never thought about that. Not then and not now. It’s just not how I think about things.

So it's a down to the person involved and their policies rather than parties? Just like how Trump got elected then.

I suspect a fortune telling pig would get things right more often than any reader of that bastion of objectivity, The Spectator.

However the experts we employ to study these things are rather better informed than either. That’s their job. They don’t just listen to chatter in bars or watch videos proposing conspiracy theories. They study, research and consult. Having looked at all the probable outcomes the best course of action is decided. None being free of harm.

We don’t have a Presidential system thank goodness so the risk to a gullible electorate of being conned is much less.

Hopefully we aren’t so gullible although we did allow Johnson to achieve his personal ambition to become PM through fairly Trumplike tactics, so perhaps not.

You often play the charade of being a One Nation Tory but you dismiss The Spectator, have you read it - too many long words?
