What the government was trying to introduce was a "meaningful vote" on the unamended version. If it had passed they intended to withdraw the letter they sent on Saturday night. This was truly an executive v Parliament test which Bercow had no real alternative than to refuse, as I think any Speaker would have done. It looks like yet another stunt by Johnson to cast himself in the role of martyr in the eyes of the people, supported by his cheer leaders in the right wing press, in preparation for the GE to come. He must have known it would fail and all the bluster is therefore just window dressing. The second reading of the WAB will probably pass but Parliament will take charge of the timetable and not allow the government to railroad it through. That's my current reading of tomorrow.

There are some knuckledraggers, racists and xenophobes on the leave side no doubt, and I hate the hate in that respect. But patronising everyone continually isn’t going to sway many votes. I’m sure you think you are coming across as reasoned, truth be told I interpret it as dogmatic and that you have a superiority complex.. You seem completely unable to concede on anything, even when faced with reasoned debate back.

Lib dems have been 100% remain from day 1 and she is their leader. QED she is pro remain. Nothing to do with an EU bung for him indoors. Stop repeating this base level smear codswallop.

Couldn't give a flying f***, if you voted leave which I'm sure you did then you knew full well what would happen if you lost! And more importantly I respect older voters with life experience than your brain washed kids

Obviously, because the status quo needs no further work. Leaving after 40 years of entanglement requires a lot of further work. Entanglement eh.

Oh really getting fed up with me repeating myself....f***ing hell kettle pot springs to mind. I am not quoting law! I am just trying to separate innuendo from actual evidence. Aka lies from truth. Of course there is a chance, but it has been denied and with the downside of it ever been shown to be true I tend to believe them. Do you have any actual evidence to the contrary or are you just re-throwing the mud chucked by the right wing media in the hope that some sticks on others, as it has on you? Once an election campaign starts all donations over £7500 must be published by the Electoral Commission so then there will be no doubt. This is all pretty unimportant. The bottom line is that Best for Britain are at last presenting the case for remaining in the EU in an effective way. It has been badly missed and is much needed.

No doubt they are trawling through dustbins hoping for muck to chuck. Many companies now receive funding via the EU which in the future, if we exit, would come from the UK instead. Both Jo Swinson and her husband have been involved with the LibDems for years and would not therefore be recent converts to the cause of remaining in the EU.

If anybody decided to vote leave because somebody is able to present cogent arguments which counter their own views then i would pity them. This isn't about personalities, even Johnson's. It's about the future of the coming generations. Anyone thinking about themselves is being really selfish. When I get reasoned debate I do my level best to engage with it. It doesn't happen very often though so maybe you have missed it!

My kids and grandkids are much better educated than me and are all fully committed to us remaining in the EU. They have a wide vision of their, and our, place in the world.
