It's not as if they need a whole special room to see constituents in for private meetings, and nor should they be meeting with their Agent or employing outside staff. Totally agree. Unbelievable really that any money is being made available. Interesting to see if any who have criticised the lack of NHS funding take up this offer.

From my reading of the article this is a storm in a teacup. The office which determines how MP's expenses can be claimed has made up to £10,000 each available for any expenses found necessary to establish and run a home office during this period. It will still need to be justified and accounted for. It's not a blanket payment of £10,000 to everyone, so not a "pay rise". In fact, as some have said, many won't be claiming anything at all and as their travel and similar expenses will all now be nothing, their overall net expenses are going to reduce, not increase. It's merely a budget exercise. Introducing a new expenses line where none previously existed. You may be right but I am not convinced. Introducing a new expenses line at this time is at best somewhat insensitive or at worst immoral

So let me get this straight the rest of the country is taking a pay cut and these cnuts get a rise well they are certainly taking the rise out of the public. And what exactly are they doing for their extra money? Parliament is closed so no legislation to examine. Yes they have their constituencies but they will be working from home so less travel time and no late nights in the commons. Perhaps they should only be getting 80% of their salary. A significant number of MP's also employ immediate/close family members as their staff. So these additional expenses all go into the same household in a very large number of cases. In the meantime, a significant number of frontline NHS workers are doing their jobs without correct PPE. Some getting ill. Some even dying. Coupled with the "NHS is coping" narrative, further details have emerged of existing patients treatment programs being suspended to cope with CV19. Edited by Forest Hillbilly (13 Apr 2020 5.22pm)

That's why most of them won't have any additional expense involved so won't be claiming, or if any tried would be refused. The froth that some people work themselves into over nothing is always amusing to witness but right now it's really disappointing. We are all in this together and from what I see our MPs, of all parties, are doing their best in very difficult circumstances to stay calm, offer reassurance and support the government's efforts. As you know I have been no great admirer of the politics and political maneuvering of the current Tory Party, However I am very supportive of the way they are handling this and particularly of Boris Johnson who has done his damnedest to be a real leader at a time of national crisis. His heartfelt tribute to the care he received really touched me. I wish him well. The time for hindsight and learning lessons comes later. Right now we need to get behind our government and do what they are requiring of us. No questions. Just do it. Complaining about civil liberties being eroded at this time is irresponsible as it could encourage those who seek to ignore the needs of others by offering them excuses. Analysing the impact on our economic futures is for tomorrow, when we know when tomorrow might be. No government could turn it's back on this kind of emergency because of the possibility that the economic future might in the end cause more harm than if the emergency was ignored. The emergency is real and it's now. Economic futures are forecasts of tomorrows.

In comparison we spend less than 2 percent on military. It can hardly be said that healthcare isn't a priority. The government has spent huge amounts, vast amounts on tackling this and because it's not perfect....you know, because it's never going to be....You get this.
