Last update from Parish was that the major remaining hurdle to getting started was Sainsburys holding out for unrealistic money for the little bit of land they own that we need. Parish made it pretty clear that unless Sainsburys got sensible with their valuation, he would have to go back to Croydon Council and ask them to issue a Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO), taking the land from Sainsburys for whatever the Council feels is a fair price. The Mayor of London gave the stand the green light, so it would be in the public interest for a CPO to be used if Sainsburys won't lower the asking price. Palace know this. Sainsburys know this. They both know that the other knows it too, so I'd imagine they are just finishing their game of bluff over the actual figure. This Sainsbury is the issue. As has been said many times before. Parish insinuated that he may need to 'work with the council' to sort the impasse, I decode that as getting the council to issue Sainsbury's a CPO, which would be delicious as they've spent all this time pissing us about.
Did you know? 98.0000001% of people are morons. |

Its literally the corner of Sainsbury's car park thats holding it up as stated above. Originally posted by martin2412
I really can't believe that people still believe that Parish ever had any intention of going through with this. I'm waiting for the next time he starts to get a bit of flak so he can then bring out another CGI for you all to gush over, and start fawning over him again. The bloke's a PR man. He knows how to pull the wool over your eyes.

You're correct, but as Parish specifically cited sainsburys as the last main hurdle I presume he's confident the replacement houses can be achieved. We've certainly agreed and signed the post-planning permission legal agreement which addresses the issue. My take (and I work in planning) is that finding land, obtaining planning permission and delivering even a relatively small number of replacement houses in the local area won't be quick, easy or cheap. I presume the club put a land agent to work on the task the second we got planning permission, and I'd hope progress would have been made by now. They might have bought the appropriate site under a separate name to cpfc so that the price didn't get inflated. A poster called Dorking is also a planner, and he or she was following the planning application in far more detail than me. Hopefully they'll be along shortly to tidy up my messy answer!

How about you explain it to me now instead of talking in patronising riddles like you always do. I would like nothing more than you to say 'I told you so' but you'll only be able to do that when construction starts, and mark my words, that ain't happening any time soon.

I cant speak for maple but certainly the question I would ask you is: given that Parish has delivered what he said all along was the main priority, namely the academy, what makes you so doubtful that he can deliver the new stand?

It wasn’t my post to explain. However I do believe that it was being pointed out, through the use of irony, that as promised and as stated above we were promised an Academy and we got, guess what, an Academy. So no need for the bitter little digs at Parish.

One of the planning conditions is that no work above the level of the existing stand is allowed to take place until 6 new dwelling have been completed (or words to a similar effect). Another states the club need to give 12 months notice to buy the houses on Wooderson Close so the council can rehome the people that live there. Croydon Council's backhander (sorry S106) is £1m. They had to jump through hoops with air quality, noise, and storm water assessments, and are having to review all the parking restrictions within a mile of the stadium (there's no where to park anywhere is there). For some reason a new cycle route has got to be included in the S106 as is that fashion now. Despite huge positive the planners seemed to have filled their boots with this project and done everything possible to delay the potential benefits it brings. Blockers would be a better name for them.... particularly in Croydon as they seem to drive away development with stupid demands. Its the ultimate job for the useless power hungry civil servant. Sainsbury's also remains an issue. Fulham announced their plans to construct the Riverside stand, now costing £100m in 2008. Wimbledon took almost 30 years to find a new ground. Without strong political will, these projects drag on and on.
