From my own experience (being Jewish) there is a difference between a persons relationship with god and a persons relationship with man. Just because someone is attracted to faith, this doesnt mean that anything is wrong in their life.

There is no correlation between turning to religion and being some kind of vunerable sap. All it proves is that the person wants to be closer to god, or at the very least learn from the teachings of the faith and understand how this can iprove the quality of life.

I think that it is wrong for Matt to be trying to convert anyone to his beliefs, if that is what he believes then he should be happy with that and get on with his life without trying to enforce it on others.

Bean,
It's clear to me that Matt has found something he feels is special in his life, it's also clear that he is not trying to FORCE christianity on you, but he obviously has something in his life that makes him very happy, and he is trying to give that same thing to other people. He's not trying to get some people to join his little gang, he's trying to give other people something that he feels with help them and make them happy.

Personally, i'm not particularly religious and have very little interest in it, however i find it harsh that you criticise Matt, when he is in fact trying to give you something he believes will make you happy...

ok, i see your point but im going to have to disagree with your second paragraph.in my experience, people who have found GOd at a later stage in life, in many cases have been through some sort of crisis period. I have also noticed that at this time of crisis in a persons life, the local Christian front move in and make themselves indispensible to the very vulnerable person. Subsequently, Bobs your uncle and you have a new convert.

Please remember that i am only speaking from my personal experience, as this happened to my own mother! i have also seen it happen to many other people.

No, hes not trying to FORCE me into Christianity, but he is saying that i am lacking something in my life, and to be truly happy i must find God and follow the same path as him.

Surely, if hes trying to give people something which he feels will help them, and make them happy then that means he is trying to convert people, which as i keep saying i think is wrong.

I am happy that he has found something that makes him happy and fulfilled but it doesnt meani have to agree with it or with him

I never said you had to agree with him, and to be honest i dont agree with him at all. I'm plenty happy with what i have and have no interest in Christianity or become a Christian. However, i find it harsh that you criticise him for trying to convert you, when in fact he is trying to give you something he believes will help you. If he fails in trying to convert you, fair enough, plenty of people have talked to me about religion and tried to convert me and i have taken no interest. But surely it's unfair to criticise him for trying to give you something he believes will help you?

i dont think it is unfair at all. If i wanted God in my life i would be a Christian. I have actively chosen not to be. Why do i need help? i am perfectly happy the way i am. why do i need to find GOd and be converted to have a fulfilled life.

If Matt wants to live that way then fair play to him, but it does not mean that he should try to get everyone else to think the same way, because some people, like me, will just fundamentally disagree, and the more it is pushed on me, the more i will turn my back on it

I dont understand you point. are you saying that i should give him a pat of the back for all his efforts at trying?

No, however you are criticising him for trying to convert you, when he is trying to give you something he thinks will help you. Like i said, i disagree with him completely, however IMHO to say you dont like Christianity because Christians are trying to convert you is unfair. It's not as though he's trying to convince you to do something to benefit him, he gets f-all from you converting, he's trying to convert you because he believes you will benefit from it. Obviously whether you agree with it or whether you disregard it is completely up to you, but i dont understand the need to criticise him for it?

I've only read a couple of pages, so i apologize if i say some incorrect stuff, im going on what i have read and what ive been told thats been said.

But not everyone is going to agree with everything, if they did would be a boring place, and for one person to stand out and say this is what i believe is right everyone else is wrong is stupid and ignorant. Wouldn't you want people to believe what they want to believe that is if they believe anything at all. I am christain, do believe in God, the bible and the commandments, but i know people who don't believe in any of it at all. Not only do i respect their decision not to be believe it, they respect my decision to believe it.

Fair enough, i can see where your coming from. Similar to you, i'm happy as i am and have no desire to become a christian, or any other religion for that matter..
