and we're unlikely to get that lost £30m back through finishing higher in the league because he was still here for one more year.

So what?

I am a football fan. I don't want to sell our best players.

Another season and 30 million is fine with me,

That seems a somewhat short term view with no real thought about how we are going to strengthen our squad so as to compete at a higher level. If we want better players, we have to buy them or develop them. The latter approach can take time and even then may not give us the desired results. As for buying them, where do we get the money unless we sell a player so we can buy two (or even three) so as to improve our squad?

I know none of us know how long we've got left but you seem to think purely in terms of the next season and no further.

You seem to think that money equals improved squad. The squad improves when you buy quality, not sell it.
We have already been forced to sell one top quality player. What have we replaced him with? A better player? I think not.

Top quality does not come to this club for through big money transfers. It arrives via risky signings from the lower leagues that sometimes come good or other teams cast offs.
How many of our top players do you think we can replace and still be as good on the pitch?
One? Two? Ten?

These kinds of players are not lining up to join Crystal Palace.

Ridiculous post, we are a self sufficient club, with no sugar daddy, you need to remember that Guehi, Eze, Wharton and Olise cost about 60m combined, so, take the 120m we got for MG and MO and reinvest in another 3/4, keep the treadmill running, we have become a squad where we can sell 1 or 2, and it doesn't affect the team, going back five years we only had one sellable talent, and he left on a free

If spent wisely it does and Freedman has shown us just how wisely he has spent money over the last few years - yes, almost all of it was Textor's contribution when he bought into the club. Without that kind of input we wouldn't have been able to buy Olise, Guehi, Andersen, Mateta etc., in the first place because even with all the TV dosh the club hasn't been making a profit. How are we to buy what you call "risky signings from the lower leagues" (or from abroad) if we aren't making a profit and are not selling an existing player? I'd like to know where you think the money will come from to buy such players.

To avoid further disappointment maybe you need to find another football club to support. This is the Palace way and of course we have been in administration twice in the last 25 years.

I know this is our role model but it does come with a risk. Southampton had a few golden years where they sold for big money replaced on the cheap and the incoming players all worked out until they didn't.

Finding players like Olise and nabbing them before other Pl clubs is really hard and credit to Dougie.

However we have to be careful that the club does not get too greedy as Southampton did and assume there's another cab on the rank waiting.

We can afford to lose Guehi at the right price. We cannot afford to let Eze go until his replacement has arrived and bedded in.

Agree, Guehi will not be missed at all, in fact with his lack of physicality and not dominant in the air, i would offer Andersen a good new deal, and we will probably lose Mitchell for free at the end of the season, also new contracts to Lerma and JPM.

Agree with all of that.

Eze is too pivotal for me, Guehi a great player but I'd rather have someone a bit more physical and committed to the art of defending for the money involved, Mitchell would be no great loss/probably needs replacing, JPM now is an obvious one and Lerma still has the potential to be massively underrated.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!
