It's rumoured the release clause is 60/65m for a champions league club. Whatever the release clause is, if it's a champions league club that he goes to (he'd be mad to go anywhere that wasn't) then it won't be for a penny more than the stated release clause. No team is going to hand us free money.

We will never be a 'big club' if we don't keep our quality players.

Why do I bother?

I know it hurts. But isn't that the business model we want? Where we take young stars keep them for a few seasons and then they go onto bigger things?

It makes us attractive to another Olise, Eze or Wharton down the line.

Players are smart now to have the release clause. If only wilf had the same he could have gotten his dream Arsenal move.

Perhaps they'll find this forum in some sort of internet/information archaeological exercise 300 years in the future and ressurrect us all to enjoy those years... once they've successfully deciphered Willo's posts.

It is upsetting but even the top clubs lose players to the Apex clubs like Real Madrid so it’s just the football food chain I’m fraid.

We just have to use the funds wisely (unlike spuds when they lost Bale) and as we’ve go a manager who comes from the Bundesliga where they build good, functional teams then I have high hopes.

The upside if you can call it that. Is that at least at face value it appears business is being done early rather than a few days before the start of the season with a pre season under your belt

Apparently, Nixon is suggesting that Citeh may try and hijack the deal. Hope they don't succeed. Much rather he went to Germany so we don't keep hearing how well he's doing for another PL club (and having to face him twice a season - you know what happens when ex-Palace players return to play against us at Selhurst).

I just read this too. It has that ring of authenticity doesn’t it.

I would rather this than see him playing against us. We look like we are about to sign his replacement too.

I wonder if Parish and Co already knew who was leaving/staying. It seems very coincidental that we've signed a CB and (hopefully) a winger and are likely going to lose Olise and Guehi this window.

Perhaps we're finally doing a little advanced planning rather than just reacting.

Well he didn’t waste much time in deciding to go did he.

Disappointed as it will make it easier for others to follow him now…..I would guess Eze will be next once an offer comes in….if rumours are true he was the one most likely to go.

But that’s the way it is these days….we are a selling club and that’s what we do. Develop players for other teams.

Apparently the release clause is just £55m. This seems ridiculously low if true.

Indeed.

Trying to stay glass half full, if I were a Jack Clarke at Sunderland or the next Eze/Olise in the Championship I'd be looking very favourably at a move to SE25 instead of some of the larger clubs. Ditto if I was struggling to break into the first team at a top club Academy somewhere.
