I like Mateta but I’m never sure if his long legs are a help or hinderance. Of course, I can’t think of a solution other than longer socks perhaps which may confuse defenders.

Agree NEILLO. I'm happy to go with my own view, from a position of complete ignorance, that both our starlets were fine and did what had been agreed beforehand. They indicated to the bench their time was up. Interestingly, the commentator on the stream I was watching thought Roy's body language said as much and went on to suggest he should put Olise in a big ball of fluffy cotton wool until the next game. So is either Olise or Eze injured and therefore probably unavailable in the short term? I feel I'm missing something. Didn't Eze spend a long time being attended to on the pitch before coming off? I'm in the dark.

Well, anyone pushing for Richards to be our permanent right back must have been given food for thought in the opening seconds last night. In terms of the defence as a unit, I'm starting to think that having a nervy Henderson behind them as opposed to the calmer and more imposing Johnstone is having an effect. It's entirely plausible to think that if Olise and Eze had played together more often this season we would have another few more points in the bag which would take us to our spiritual home of mid table. We still badly miss last seasons version of Doucoure in midfield. I'm looking forward to seeing what Wharton will do to improve that situation. Over the 90 minutes we caused more of our own problems than Sheffield created. If we had scored the opening goal I think that could have been a two or three goal margin win. Respect the win. Together with the two new signings, yesterday was a good day and we can go into this weekends game with a lot more positivity than of late. I pushed for him ahead of Ward but probably not ahead of Clyne who has been okay of late.

I reckon it’s between us, Luton, Everton and Forest for the third relegation spot. We should have enough to stay up, but we must start defending better. Luton have made their home ground a bit of a fortress but they are useless away. Everton may still be deducted more points. Forest are very average. We are by no means out of trouble. A fair post.

This sums up my concern with so many posts on here. How on earth is it ever remotely reasonable to expect a 6-1 win in any game of professional football?! I mean, how often do they actually happen, ever, in any game, even for Real Madrid, or Man City, or Bayern Munich?! Yet Palace 'should' manage it!

Not that I expect anyone to contemplate whether they were wrong and Roy was right. Instead, it is Roys fault we conceded early.

The poor defensive displays coincide with Doucoure being injured and not playing. It’s no coincidence that without his defensive shield we get exposed, Lerma just as good. Roy can only play, who he has available, without key players we struggle, as most teams below 8th do. Well, that’s a fair enough comment on Doucoure, but what about the two £40m/£50m central defenders that we’ve got and the young full back who a season or so ago was picked for England and being courted by some of the top teams. You would have thought they would have been capable of shoring up our defence, as they are our defence! I also understand about struggling to top six teams but not sure why one defensive midfielder out should make us do poor defensively. That is effectively saying that Hughes, Ozoh, Riedewald Richards and Lerma aren’t up to the job. If that’s what you think then fair enough but I think our defenders are playing poorly and look like they have no confidence. That may stem from tactics or the goalkeeper behind them.

And Edouard, who has no pace and does nothing on his own up front.
Still our top scorer of the season. Some people in here like to make out Doucoure is some wonder player he is not. Last night was another example of Roy being the issue not the players. Players out of position and changes to go even more defensive.

You must surely realise that was a figure of speech to indicate how much we were in control going forward? It’s when we started trying to defend it all went pear shaped. ....well to an extent it was Roy's fault as he selected Richards at right back when Clyne has been in reasonable form and had done nothing to warrant being left out. Originally posted by TheBigToePunt

BBC reports says: [Roy] was able to name Olise and Eze in his team for just the seventh time this season due to injury and their quality shone through. However, both Olise and Eze had to go off after receiving treatment, but the latter said both players were fine. "I'm OK, it was just a precaution, it should be fine," Eze said. "[Michael Olise] is also fine. He's good."
