It is okay bemoaning our luck but the fact is that we didn't make our ascendancy count and we are notoriously bad at that.

That recent interview Parish did on the Lineker podcast - he reaffirmed Roy’s love of defence, and said “everyone can score goals in the Premier League, right?”. Wrong Steve.

Eberechi Eze sustained a hamstring injury which meant he was missing for a succession of games, Olise has only just returned to the fray and has only featured in 2 games this season. Ayew's workrate is admirable but one wouldn't file him under 'Goalscorer'. Edouard has failed to deliver but it is the model of plausibility that this could be attributable in part to a lack of scoring opportunities. Mateta has hardly impressed and does not appear to be PL standard. There is no attacking thrust from both full-backs but this could be due to what has been asked of them. Most certainly Ward is not suited to this aspect of the game. Edited by Willo (27 Nov 2023 8.36am)

We finished last season well, even without Zaha, and this has possibly led to some complacency from the board around the need for strengthening. Exactly this. I was never overly excited by Roy's spell last season as he had a very favorable set of fixtures. As good as eze and olise are, our best attacking player was zaha and to not. replace him Is criminal, along with strengthening our fall back positions. I don't think you can blame Roy

Lots of great posts on this thread. Edited by The Dolphin (27 Nov 2023 7.27am) This post sums it up for me. If you analyse our first 11 from a distance you would probably say, a strong central defensive four of Guehi, Andersen, Doucoure and Lerma but with defensive weakness down the channels.it is worrying that we are shipping so many goals with no apparent attempt to improve the areas of weakness. In the attacking third we are not clinical enough, simple as that. Edouard is lazier than Benteke used to be and half heartedly chases down defenders who he knows he is not going to get within a couple of yards of. With the injury to both Doucoure and Eze and no decent replacements, I reckon the next 7 game hectic month could be a torrid period for us. We somehow need to pick up at least 6-8 points from the following games which might look fairly straightforward on paper but given our Everton and Luton performances could see a lower return. West Ham A

West Ham A I certainly do not expect us to improve our points tally by 6-8 from these games and I fully expect bouts of wailing and fustigation on HOL.

Not good but would be more than enough to keep us out of trouble this season. Which sadly with injuries and deficiencies is where the bar is set atm

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

Subject to the length of Eze's injury I can see us piking up no more than 3 points from those games.

West Ham A Being a tad optimistic if we think that we can obtain 6/8 points from these fixtures.
