Thats if we dont pick up more injuries and dont act. at least for some loans in the Jan window

What positions? I personally think we need cover at left back and a striker bit the latter isn’t a typical to secure via loan.

We have central midfielders but Roy prefers to play Richards. Ozoh shouldn’t be blocked from developing- play him. We have attackers sitting on the bench unused.

The other Palace forum is currently running a poll as to whether Hodgson should stay or go.
The current status is that roughly 70% think he should go and roughly 30% think he should stay.
With us football fans being fickle beings, this gap is likely to narrow if we take 4 points from the next two games.
Nonetheless, it does indicate a fair degree of disillusionment with Hodgson; perhaps it is more widespread than many may have imagined.
From this forum, and this isn't a precise science, it seems to be more of a 50/50 split.

PV was sacked because we were dropping like a rock into a relegation battle, while we had Wilf, Olise, and Eze (who PV started benching every match.) On top of that, I think we went 3-4 matches without one shot on goal, and looked arguably worse than we did with Frank Deboer in charge, which is almost impossible.

Also, PV was a beaten, dispirited husk of a man by then, who wasn't even returning the phone calls of SP, who was calling to ask WTF was going on.

When Roy replaced PV, pretty much our entire squad had a massive party and immediately played better. Things are not so rosy this season, but comparing PV to Roy is over the top.

I'm not comparing them as managers, I'm comparing their records when Vieira was sacked to now and, it has to be said, they are similar.

Things were bleak at the end under Vieira but that run of games which he endured were horrendous and Roy benefited from an immediately easier run.

If Luton win their game in hand on us, and they have Sheff Utd up next, we'll be four points clear of the relegation zone. We really really need 3-4 points from our next two games against Chelsea and Brentford because it's Arsenal away after that and I don't much fancy us winning that one.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold...

The reason the split appears to be 50/50 is, in my opinion, that a fairly vocal minority accuse the Roy out majority of being scared of relegation in derogatory terms. I wonder if it is they who are scared of the future under a new manager. Roy has no magic wand to keep us up and his career has been chequered with sackings, leavings by “mutual consent” and relegation. With so many of our best players wanting to leave or open to a big money move, we will struggle to replace them if our manager has the negative reputation Roy has. Better bite the bullet now and give the new manager some time to bed in with all our best young players who may then decide to give us one more year.

Roy will keep us up - playing s***, turgid football.

Finishing 15th or 16th with absolutely nothing to get excited about.

Make the change now, give the new manager half a season where we have a decent head start on Burnley, Sheffield Utd and Luton and let them make a start.

Let them work with our squad, improve it in January and then have a full pre-season having already settled in.

I have had a plethora of conversations with supporters of our club and there were certainly an array of opinions and mixed feelings on this matter.

Some believe that we are in 'Pitchy seas' and that Mr Hodgson with his vast experience is the person to steer the ship into calmer waters.
Some others opined that with some managers currently available this is the time to make a change as some 'Freshness' is necessary to revitalise the squad.
Some gallivanted down the alley of "Be careful what you wish for".

Certainly I believe we are approaching 'Squeaky bum' time.

Late in the year, but not too late for me to consider this as a candidate for most ill informed rubbish post of 2023.

Yes, this.
I agree that Roy's career, aside from the odd success, is littered with failure, but somehow his longevity has him considered as some sort of wise old owl who knows his stuff. I would say that his football is a relic of the past, and to be fair to him I still wonder as to why he took on this extra year.
But this situation also reveals Parish does it not? Which manager in their right mind would come to work for him, look at what is on offer and the history of previous managers in the last 11 seasons.

Richards is covering Doucoure’s defensive midfield role. Who are the other central midfield players that he’s ignoring ?

Ozoh is getting playing opportunities now. I don’t think he looks ready for a starting role yet, but if he continues to develop then we could see that happen later in the season.

I’m also curious to know who the “ attackers sitting on the bench unused “ are ?

Many people have tried to be football managers and most have failed. There are a small group who make a career out of it and an even smaller group who win stuff.

Roy is a pragmatist he has found a way for his teams to play that achieves just enough that he is wanted when out of a job.

At the highest level he has been found wanting never the less at our level he is a success. We may never win trophies but we are not Moan United who expect to do so and with style.

My guess is that Roy is doing exactly what Parish expects that is keeping us in this division.

I see Parish as Mr Micawber hoping that something good will turn up e.g. investors with deep pockets, and until that time his job and Roy's is to keep the club stable and in the PL.

When Roy goes at the end of the season unless the board suddenly decide to spend money Parish will be looking for a younger Roy.

I still think David Moyes if available will be our next manager.
