We really need a good defensive midfielder. RLC would have been great. We needed a captain in the middle - that's what we missed - a Jedinak type with better skills. If Guaita goes we'll need a similar replacement as Butland looks to me below that level - maybe confidence. Guaita would have stopped Everton beating us I think. Hoping for a good RB. A replacement for Zaha if leaving. Hope they buy well.

I defo agree with this too. Whoever might be deployed in the CG position knows they will have to work as hard as he did so competition for playing time will be fierce. In all fairness the CG impact faded later on in the season once we get found out, but no denying his energy, goals and assists probably contributed to half our points tally. We will just need to mix up our style a bit. I do think Loftus-Cheek could be a sound alternative though. I'm not sure a like for like replacement is required, in fact I'd say looking for and buying a like for like replacement seems a bit naive- no 2 players are the same.

CG is quite unique in being an untechnical no10. We'll now set up with Eze, a technically gifted no 10, and hopefully some energetic, combative CMs to compliment him.

Obviously there is a lot of talk about a CM and CB. RB has been mentioned but the subject of a CF has gone quiet. Is this still a position that we are looking at?

I agree about O’Brien, him and Doucore would add the steel to compliment the skill of Eze and Olise. I concur. I advocated for us brining in Doucoure and O'Brien in the Midfielders next season thread (I think) quite sometime ago. It's a shame it seems to have gone quiet on the O'Brien front. It's well reported he has a 12mill release fee so we wouldn't have to quibble over the transfer fee and from what I've seen of him he looks very Gallagher like. There is something about Aribo that doesn't convince me and I'm not sure where Aribo would fit in our current team.

Whilst I'm very pleased about the reported signings of Johnstone and the Derby lad, I am puzzled why little progress appears to be happening elsewhere. Much has already been said about Doucore and others but still no furm news on any of these. Are we lacking in funds, or are we struggling to agree these deals? Part of me wonders if we are waiting to see what happens with Gallagher, as he remains our top target, if he were available, either on a loan to buy or a straight purchase. I know we are always late to complete deals, although last summer was a pleasing exception but something seems odd to me about how little has happened so far.

What did I say before. The guy is a self serving bellend. He is one of the last people I would want to see in a Palace shirt.

Maybe a younger Jimmy Mac type?
