Nice one, chuffed to bits for them. A soft penalty, but on the whole we were the better team and a deserved win. Let's go one better now!

The psychic Orpington chicken right again, we await its forecast for Sunday. Good decision to take Grealish off and reset for the last period. OK jammy penalty and he fluffed it and got lucky, but deserved to win in end.

When the penalty was awarded, my mind turned to what I was told today, that Schmeichel has saved roughly 1 in 4 penalties he has faced. On the subject of goalkeepers, Pickford made a couple of good saves but his distribution, normally so impressive, was rather poor. Finally, both goalkeepers tonight made their senior debuts whilst playing for Darlington. Well done England.A fully deserved victory. Edited by Willo (07 Jul 2021 11.45pm)

What a night. More stressful and ultimately more enjoyable than the Ukraine match. The build up to Sunday will be fantastic, what an occasion. Sorry to say it, but I think the Italians are a better side than us. Regardless of the outcome, I’ve seen enough to know that Gareth isn’t the man. The depth in our striking options is the best I’ve ever known, yet we are so negative and limp over the line. I know there is an unrealistic thread on Southgate to Palace, but I hope he never comes him near Selhurst Park. I wish him every success on Sunday night but would be pleased to see the back of him.

Poor Southgate can never catch a break. I think he's done a fair job to be honest and has made some tough decisions that have largely been the right ones. Getting to the final of the Euros speaks for itself really.

I believe the Italians have played the best so far, but not by much. They have not been outstanding. In fact Spain played better football in the semi with them, although, better football doesn't necessarily mean winning football. Who would you have as manager of England? And, if we beat Italy on Sunday, will you revise your opinion?

He doesn’t seem to fancy Sancho and while Grealish may or not be the answer putting him then taking him off again was a little bit odd.

How anyone can be anti Southgate I'll never know. May not be the sexiest coach in the world, but he's got everything spot on so far.

Luke Shaw..... good full back but can’t kick with his right foot incredible for a pro. There was a few occasions last night when the cross was on but he had to check and play a different ball.
Bring back Brolin |

And, if we beat Italy on Sunday, will you revise your opinion? In all honesty, I've no idea who I'd have as manager, but I'm not paid the big bucks, nor have the expertise to make that call. The problem is that international management isn't attractive, all the best managers want to work in the Premier League/Serie A/La Liga. Belgium have the same issue in that they have an outstanding squad but with an average manager in Roberto Martinez. The best manager in the comp is Mancini and annoyingly that's who we're up against next. He really is getting the most out of his squad, which on paper is inferior to ours. Will I change my opinion if we beat Italy? - that depends on how we play. If its the usual negative tactics, then no. If we play high energy, creative football, which in my opinion we should do with our plethora of quality attacking options, I'd be more inclined to. What we must remember is that England are the Man City of this tournament. Man City wouldn't celebrate finishing runners up.
