I’ve already said it on this thread but If Ollie McBurnie Is worth close to 20 million then Wilf is worth 3 times that at least. There is not a snowballs chance in hell of him leaving for £25 million. In complete agreement. That would be an insult for a player of his ability at Premiership level who has been undoubtedly our key player for several seasons now. £50m at least.

He’s 32 soon Isn't he on like 300k per week as well? What I really hope beyond anything else is that this doesn't turn into a big pantomime if no club offers a realistic fee for Wilf. If the stories are true then Arsenal only offered 45m for Wilf last summer which was never in a million years going to be accepted, especially with the sell-on clause. This summer if they offered that it might possibly be different, but without knowing a) how much United would take from the deal and b) how much we expect to have to pay for his replacement(s) and c) how much money we actually have for transfers, then whatever we think he is worth is irrelevant. Given we are talking about paying 20m for a kid with no PL experience, the idea that we would accept 25m for a player who is regularly referred to as one of the best players outside the top 6 (by pundits) is quite frankly insane. We know he's had a bad season and that will impact the fee, but he's not suddenly become a bad player. Anything north of 50m I think is more realistic unless the club are desperate to sell. Whether anyone will pay that is another matter.

I read earlier that Zaha fears that ( again ) he will be priced out of a move by Palace's valuation. I really hope that does not turn out to be the case - we went down that road a year ago and Zaha's form last season reflected his disappointment at not getting a move. I'm not advocating letting him go at a bargain price, but something a lot more realistic than the figures mentioned last summer. But that was his dickhead brothers move for going to the papers with this "he wants to play for Arsenal" nonsense, which resulted in them lowballing us like the cheeky, cheap f***s they are, and that was the only offer we got.

I was slightly bemused by Hodgson’s comment that Zaha was ‘poor’ after the lockdown, contrasting it with his form prior to the lockdown.

Any club that is interested will have to accept the fact that he is 28 soon and they wont be making money with selling him again in a couple years. I'v no idea if his agent is touting him at European clubs but In my opinion in England it will down to Everton or Arsenal if they believe he can push them to Champions league and that will pay for his fee. When you look at it he hasn't really got many options within England. This one could get very interesting and you never know he could still end up at Palace next season. Not good enough for the very top clubs

When you consider Arsenal, apparently paid £70 million for Pepe, you could ask were they ever serious about Zaha.? Everton, who knows. Both of these would take him if he fell into their arms, but was it mainly to wind Palaces best player and club up. If so it worked , it’s a ploy from way back so possible. If any club really want Zaha, they are going to pay £60 mill + . Even allowing for the Covid effect. When he is doing it he is worth every penny ..

Does Wilf still have that 25% sell-on clause with his old club? I think there was talk of it being waived as part of the AWB deal but I'm not sure it ever happened.

Unfortunately for Zaha, he is worth more to Palace than £50m, as he has paid a key part in keeping us in the Premier, which is worth circa £130m. That’s the difficult bit for the board to deal with.

I think he'll have to go after Roy's comments. The key thing is when. Ideally, it would be as soon as possible so we can reinvest before the season starts. I'd love him to stay but we need a better squad and he can get us 2/3 first-team players.
Why would anyone chose to be a Seagull? The Eagle is a far superior creature. The Seagull lives under it's damp pier meekly looking out, blinded by the sheer quality of the Eagle's palace. |
