You can hear the whistle the moment Grealish fell over

Villa were unlucky not to get the goal, but they did not deserve a point. They were toothless and were probably lucky to end with 10 men on the pitch and not 9 given McGinn's kick with intent on Schlupp (if you can find it, it is clearly a red card offence).

As Roy said, no apologies necessary, we were clearly the better team

We were the better team and it would have been a travesty had we lost but that is what comes of not closing a game out properly and scoring when you should.
We all have differing opinions of the Grealish incident but I saw he and Zaha have contact which started his fall and then Cahill stuck a leg out which it looks like he withdrew last minute.
Friend had blown but to me it was at least a free kick to Villa and maybe worse.
We must however take our good fortune when it comes as it will surely work against as many times as not.

I have watched and watched the Grealish incident..

At first wasn’t sure but now I think ...it was a dive

Yes slight nudge from Wilf ( could be a free kick edge of box) , which speeds up Grealish momentum....
Cahill just gets his leg out the way, and no contact ...Grealish throws
himself to the deck looking for a last minute penalty
If the ball hadn’t gone in then VAR would be used ... and think refs
decision would have been upheld

I must admit it’s close but I think the ref called it right

spot on. Plus some kudos to Zaha for tracking back and committing the tactical foul

I was expecting to see how the ref had made a howler on MOTD and Villa denied etc.etc.

So it was a surprise to see that Grealish did, in fact, dive, and the referee promptly blew for it.

That was where the game stopped, on the referee's whistle, not on what happened after.

Friend is a highly competent referee, and acted correctly.

At the time of the incident, I saw it as a dive and anyone sitting within a few rows of my seat in the Lower Holmesdale would have heard me attempt to draw this to the referee's attention by my yelling '' Grealish you diving cnut '' !

A long way from the action, yes. But I was expecting Grealish to end up on the floor because that's what he does. I'm glad, relieved and surprised that Kevin Friend called it out and I think he got it right.

Away from the controversy, Guaita has had a good start to season. Only 2 goals conceded and quick thinking that started goals in our last two games

As I have already mentioned, Grealish does tend to spend a lot of time on the turf and I mentioned this to someone next to me prior to the incident in question.Looking forward to viewing the incident on TV.

It has been mentioned that the referee blew the whistle as soon as Grealish went to ground and perhaps Guita heard it and didn't make any effort to keep out the shot. Will need to see this on TV.At the end of the day it would have been a travesty if A.Villa got a draw as they never deserved a share of the spoils.

I haven't seen MoD yet so can't comment on Lineker - idiot that he can be.
Yesterday I said that I thought it was time for Hodgson to go and I still stand by that even though the stats suggest very differently.
We have been very successful since February and we would all have taken 7 points right now and it is not his fault that we have spent very little in the transfer window and that someone did a very silly thing by throwing a contract extension to Wickham.
He has steadied our ship and we are in a relatively good place.
I am sure Hodgson will still be with us until the end of the season but I would like to see someone new take the helm after that.
I do not feel that we are seeing the best of Palace even though the points tally is good.

I am not suggesting a Pardewesque Manager - I still can barely bring myself to mention his name - but someone to do a little more with what we have and take a chance now and again.
Everton was dull, how we beat Man United I will neve know, Sheffield Utd away was an embarrassment and yesterday although we played our socks off we nearly ended up with a draw.
I have a season ticket but couldn't go yesterday and wish that I had because live is better than a stream on an i pad and it seems it was a great afternoon and so maybe I should be content with where we are and the fact that we have stayed in the Prem. for a long time now.
I am not a "why aren't we in Europe" fan but think - but for one goal yesterday - great goal from Ayew as well by the way - this thread would be full of bile.
One goal should not blind us to the facts

Some people are so hard to please. If you are not happy with the style under Roy then what do you want? Unlikely we will deliver like Liverpool or Man City, but if you are grumbling at yesterday you will unlikely get better. We all have our thoughts on the team but if you look at the bench yesterday I reckon Roy has got his handle on it.
We are 4th in the league today. I’m super happy. Look on the bright side.

As Bill Shankly once said "Never look at the league table until November".

On another point, Martin Samuel on today's 'Sunday Supplement' said that the traditional top 6 sides are under threat this season from the likes of Wolves,Leicester - and Crystal Palace ! He believes a side outside the normal top 6 could well gain a Champions League place.I doubt we will end up that high !

At the end of the day, the ref blew his whistle. End of. Linekar is in denial of the basic fact. The whistle rules. Nothing else needs discussion. Don’t blame VAR if the ref has blown, what happens after is totally irrelevant. Worse case they could have got a free kick but the ref saw the dive and rightly called it Good decision. Go do one Linekar. You of all people should know the rules
