I think if our home and away records were the other way round it wouldn't seem so bad, but our record at Selhurst this season is just appalling. 6 goals in 11 games - 2 of which were pens. For those of us who just go to home games, we invest so much emotionally in looking forward to a home win and keep leaving so disappointed. Yes, we've had injury issues with strikers, but we had them at the end of last season and were doing well then with WZ and AT up front. I just find RH so negative with his team selections and substitutions. He just won't try anyone different - he only brought in AW-B last season because we had an injury problem at the back and he has done well, so why not try some of the other youngsters, or at least out a couple on the bench instead of the same players we have there every week? Also, the size of our squad has really gone down in the last 2 windows - is that down to RH or instructions from on high? We could have done with Cabaye and Sako this season.

This thread should be called "Hodgson has to go at the end of the season". Changing managers now would be a mistake. For all of his annoying traits and decisions, we need to stick with Roy for the time being. I am fairly confident he will once again guide us to safety. The simple fact is that we are playing better than earlier in the season, now dont get me wrong, thats not hard as we were absolutely awful in some games like Wolves first time and Newcastle. When we turned over Man City and Wolves, there was some real positivity about the place. Dont forget that Watford are flying high this year and it is sadly no disgrace to ship 6 points to them, and they had the luck in both games despite the OG. Going away from home to Liverpool ironically almost represents a better chance at success than home to Watford. The next manager, whoever he is, simply has to resolve our woeful home record and get some goals going in.
Trump lost. Badly. Hahahahahahaha. |

Hodgson performed a miracle last season when he kept us up against all the odds.If we stay up this season is there any real need to dispense with his services ? His contract runs to the end of next season.

When I take a lot of time to trek over to Selhurst every other Saturday and spend a fortune to watch someone who's completely set in their ways make the same mistakes week in week out, my opinion of them is not quite as generous. He may be a nice guy, but at the moment its not enjoyable to be a palace fan, and the blame for that lays squarely on him.

He didn't make the ball go between Jimmy Mac's legs; he didn't make Tompkins not track Cathcart, etc etc. The players have to step up. In most games we have enough opportunities to not get beat let alone win. It's his game plan and tactics that are putting the team in that position but they aren't finishing. It's all fine margins and this season nothing has quite gone for us. He's not completely blameless and sometimes his decisions are baffling and frustrating but he knows that playing his way over the course of a season will see us stay up. It does seem a wasted opportunity that we haven't been able to push on for a top ten place but this year so far we've been on the wrong side of the fine margin.

It's worse than that, he's been in charge of 56 league games since taking over from FdB and has 17 wins from 56 games..so about 30% win rate

Here's my view. Roy sets the team up, plays an active part in training and come match day that group of players are ready to compete and know what they have to do. Outside of a core of the starting eleven plus one or two others, he hasn't got too many options. We have lacked game changers on the bench because the squad is light on quality. Hence the reluctance to use subs, although I think he could change things at least to give the opposition a different player to deal with.

I am broadly in agreement with this excellent post.

Precisely and after the missed header he gave away a pen in the dying moments in the next match for a silly hand ball, he alone cost us four points. Edited by Tickled pink (17 Jan 2019 7.56pm)
