A sensible option that looks cert important as things stand. We need cover in lots of areas and he certainly offers that. Started to look a lot better towards the end of the season and at a couple of mill, it’s a smart move. We do however need a lot more than Ayew and a free keeper. The defence situation is shocking with no cover at left or right back whatsoever, Schlupp and Kelly just can’t play that position and Ward wasn’t up to scratch before Wan Bissaka rose to prominence. We are also short of CB cover. Up front the situation is bleak. Benteke May come good but we have no cover other than Sorloth and Wickham. One isn’t nearly good enough, one hasn’t played much football in years. Out wide we have 2 top class wingers but are still lacking cover, Sako has gone and we need someone to come in and challenge, someone like Saint-Maxim, who could let Zaha play up top with Christian without sacrificing genuine quality out wide and shoehorning Schlupp or Meyer there. Midfield, Centre-back, fullback, striker, winger. We need a huge investment in the squad this window. Ayew May tick a couple of those boxes and is a useful signing but I have the feeling it lets Parish be complacent and skip making the necessary signings.

On the face of it, a good signing to bolster the squad and he got better as the season went on. The worry is that this is the only attacker we sign (unless Zaha goes), which is a big possibility considering our lack of activity in recent transfer windows

He is not defensive utility player though, he is a forward. Forwards are supposed to score goals, he doesnt do that and we have enough of those without adding another to the books.

The lengths you lot go to to convince yourselves that this is anything other than a ridiculous waste of money is astounding. Squad player? Strengthen the squad? Yeah, ok. Why not bring back Chungy and Mutch whilst we're at it and toss 5 million at equation? Absolute bargain given how a lot of you are deluding yourselves into thinking that signing Ayew, a proven crap player and relegation albatross, is a good idea. Edited by ChrisGC (24 Jul 2019 2.03pm)
