I am willing to believe we did not play that well. I didn’t see it albeit the 9 minutes of highlights (i.e. the ‘best’ bits from both teams) I saw some good play. BUT the negativity on this thread is unbelievable! Man U play badly, Man City play badly, Chelsea or any of those rich teams and the response is ‘good teams win even when playing badly’. That is true so perhaps you bunch of Eeyores just think it might be that Palace might be one of those good teams! Yes, any of those rich teams can play badly, but this forum isn't about them, it's about us. We played badly. And I don't see any harm in saying it even in the wake of a victory. Many said we deserved better from the Watford game. No harm in saying that either. That's one of the great attractions of this game of ours. On a slightly different point, I wonder whether anyone agrees me that the players' reaction to the final whistle was surprisingly muted. No arms in the air, no sense of achievement, barely even a sense of relief. To me they looked very pensive - as well they might.

Probably chose Kouyate over Meyer because we were playing a very physical side away from home - maybe Meyer will be preferred in a home game where we might try to control possession.

Interesting game, and tbh in our position getting the win is all that matters. We changed up our formation and went with wingers as opposed to wide mids. The downside to that was their full backs had a lot of time to put balls in to the box, which they did very well. The upshot was we were more of a threat on the break and our genius god among men put in a worldie. We are ahead of teams who have played better than us this season so far. If this is our poor spell, I'll take the 6 points.

Two minor comments in the thread deserve amplification: 1) We're lucky that Hennessey's hesitation on the missed header didn't cost us. That seemed like an fundamental mistake. His slap-down mishandling of the late-game drive (low and to his left) was also reminiscent of his suspect play prior to the April-May-August run of strong performances. 2) On any broadcasts, was there a good explanation of the disallowed goal? On highlight replays I can't see any reason for denying it.

I mentioned on HOL that I felt that it would be best to play Kouyate against Huddersfield who are not only known for their physicality but also play a lot of balls aerially. It appears we had a bit of a let off and Huddersfield deserved something from the game but all teams have been in games when perhaps they didn't deserve to win but came away with all the points. Not Hennessey's best moment when he came for the ball didn't get near it and Mounie thankfully headed over.On target and Huddersfield would have been 1-0 to the good and we then might really have found it difficult. Have just watched the highlights and the cross for the missed header shouldn't have been Hennessey's ball but he came out and that put the forward off enough for him to misdirect his header. The save was not a slap down but a good save for a tall keeper getting down to a shot low to his left and stopping a goal. Not even the best keeper in the league (De Gea) holds every shot at his goal.

Judging by some of the comments on this forum, we shouldn't be allowed to debate the negative aspects of our performance at all; only "yay we won" or "in Roy we trust" are acceptable comments these days. There I was thinking this was a place for debate and discussion

No matter the formation we generally seem to be happy to have full backs crossing from deeper positions. Roy seems to back Tomkins and Sakho to deal with that sort of ball, and instead a) pack the middle and b) also stop teams getting round behind AWB and PVA.
