Going off paying Liverpool £26m for Benteke and then £120k a week over 4 years is £50m so getting Mayer for free and paying him £170k a week is £35m so could be possible! Getting Cabaye, Sako, Delaney and Chungy off the weekly wage bill saves around £200k a week so the books are balanced! However I still think that sounds unlikely with all the noises that have come out of the club all summer especially after Roy’s press conference the other week when he said money was tight this summer!

It’s possible that we do have money and just do not want to get rinsed out. Perhaps money was never a concern but we wanted to do business with Liverpool again and didn’t want it all dragging on I dunno

We just don’t have £40 mil for transfers I wouldn’t have thought and the aim is to reduce the wage bill so the total wages coming in should be lower than the wages going out. Sorry to be rude but it was always going to be measured rather than have to get whichever players. I think we might’ve lucked out a bit with Meyer being free, West Ham’s squad being bloated and Swansea wanting Riedewald who Roy doesn’t rate too highly and that gives us the funds to bring in Ayew. I know he’s a free and all that but seriously I’d be amazed if the deal is £35m! That would be ridiculous. Mail must have this all wrong. Although Sako was a free and that bagged him £90k/wk. Guess it would be the same as signing a £20m player and £70k/week wages. But wow so much for balancing the books if this is true.

I know this bloke Meyer is a German international, but £170k a week for a player with NO Premiership expereance. I really find this hard to believe.
