He looked OK at first doing the donkey work out on the left, holding the ball up and making intelligent runs to occupy defenders, and we hoped we'd see a cutting edge but the only glimpse of that I've seen is his goal for Norway v Denmark. Sat next to a Norwegian v Wolves recently who was surprised we bought him, and he didn't mention the price - but I think there is potential there, the Arsenal game showed it, he lacks a bit of confidence, still way off starting for us and leading the line, but if he can be more decisive and direct he could develop into a useful player, same with Riedewald - a loan spell in the champ could bring him on, remember Jedinak took about a year to adjust then it suddenly clicked, Sorloth's been woeful in the EFL cup (was at swansea despite the goal, didn't see last night but the general consensus is pretty damning), but he looks intimidated by the prem, possibly cos he's out of his depth but maybe he just needs to get used to the pace and physicality and be more willing to use his own pace and strength. Jury still just about out imho.

For me it's a loan out or get rid of him in January. It's become tedious watching him plod around two yards behind the ball. Last eight of the League Cup would have been a statement of intent from the club but donkeys don't get to Finals!

Confidence can be a powerful thing for a player, he is clearly low on it currently. Yes he has physical attributes but how people can say he obviously has the talent is a step too far imo. I cannot see what quality he has displayed so far. Yes we saw an improvement against Arsenal but that was all. He shows no desire at all imo. When we do put balls up to him he rarely challenges, why does he not attack the ball with any intent? This is probably a bad example taking into account the opposition but look at Wickhams headed goal against Dulwich. Thats desire He should have followed on from Arsenal full of confidence with the opportunity to show Roy hes the man to start on Sunday. We cant write him off yet but the basic qualities you cant coach he lacks is worrying. Edited by MonsterMunch (02 Nov 2018 9.48am)

Sanogoals! I agree that I don't think Sorloth has been given enough of a chance. Not in minutes or back-to-back games, which strikers need. People had much more patience with Wickham, who has some pretty bad games and always needed a good run of matches when coming back from being out. Why isn't Sorloth allowed the same to be properly judged? Also some people are resolute that Benteke will 'come good' and 'just needs his confidence back' yet he is woeful in nearly every game. Double standards with regards to Sorloth being written off. Edited by Frickin Saweet (02 Nov 2018 10.25am)

Really? Murray seemed to find a way to attract the ball. God I miss him. With both Wilf and Yannick on the wing slinging in crosses. We played a different game back then. Benteke scored when we did the same...we now dont do that...why is that so hard for people to see or understand? I also think there are a lot of people falling into the trap of thinking he was a ready made quality player...even though when he was signed it was stressed that he'd need to get up to speed. £9m is NOTHING in todays mad mad world of transfer fees.

You certainly don't get quality, strikers ready made for the PL for £9 Mill.It was always a case of Sorloth having to adjust to the demands of the PL and that it might take him some time to fully do so. Danish football is different to the game over here and perhaps Sorloth will benefit from playing on Loan in the cut and thrust of the Championship with this being a stepping stone to helping him in his quest for PL success.

Agree with this. Apart from the Allardyce period we have never played to Benteke's strengths. You look at him at Villa and all they did was whip the ball into him (not that I approve of this way of football), he goes to Liverpool and he looks useless. The only player to cross the ball is Townsend. Wilf for all his magic, likes to beat players and cut the ball back and Benteke or any of our strikers just aren't that intelligent enough to make second and sometimes third runs like Murray did. Also, everyone on this forum knows we lack creativity in midfield but when no goals come, the blame goes to the strikers. Fact is, since Benteke's been injured we have rarely created anything meaning the strikers haven't had decent chances. Sorloth has a lot to learn and has shown in very small glimpses he can at least do more the Ayew but for 9 mil from the danish league, I wasn't expecting much.

Defoe was essentially swapped for Jozy Altidore and went on to score a hatful of goals at Sunderland. He then went on a free. We sold Glenn Murray for 4 million quid, and the he went on a free. In 2012 Swansea signed Michu for 2 mil, thats probably 8 or 9 in today's money at the most. If you have a good scouting department, proper negotiators and good relations with agents then you can get quality in the door for under 10 mil, and in some cases for free. How much did Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez cost? We just dont do it, ever, but dont think that means it cant be done. I will once again list the example of Krysztof Piatek who was signed by Genoa (not exactly Juve) for 4 million euros and is banging the goals in. We paid over twice that for Sorloth. Danish football is different to the premier league? Hmmmmm....not half, guv! Sorloth was a flop in the Eredivisie (akin to championship level). Danish top fight football is nowhere near the championship. So we basically paid almost 10 million quid for a player who had success in league one and couldn't cut it in the championship. The jury is not out on Sorloth needing a loan, the jury has come back and its a unanimous verdict. He looks absolutely nowhere near and we might aswell play him in the under 23s if we dont loan him out.

Vardy joined when Leicester were in the Championship and in his first season only scored 5 goals in 29 apps. When Mahrez joined, Leicester were also in the Championship and in his initial season scored 3 goals in 20 apps and in the next season 4 goals in 32 apps.

The cherry on the cake was the fact that we had potentially the easiest draw into the semis and we pull out a performance like Weds.

I would rather have had Bumfluff, and I've never said that before. ok, i didnt watch the boro game so cant comment on that, but from what ive read nobody covered themself in glory, a weakened scratch side against a team top of the championship full of confidence. cant really take a lot from that really.
