Which is why it was meant to be a slow progressive change. It isn't and we're all angry about that. Including Parish! I agree mate, but like I've said can you really tell FDB to play similar to big Sam. I personally think you can't, it's not in his nature. If that the case , show him the door. We move on.

You maybe right in the last paragraph about fighting to stay up, the plan was to a small and gradual change under FDB. This clearly hasn't happened but what frustrates him is we tried an so called expansive style under pardew with basically the same players. It didn't work, therefore it's a strange appointment. Given the budget. I don't accept the Pardew argument. He had never played that style of football let alone coached it. A lot of people are still ignoring the fact that FdB's career and preferred formation has been 4-3-3 which is not what we've been playing. His days at Barca were not the tika-taka football they play today but one where the team defended and attacked as one. That's not really that different to how Sam had us playing albeit with a different formation. His Ajax managerial career was built on the defence (best in league each season) so you'd hope he could organise us (especially considering his playing position) to be more solid. Maybe the addition of Sakho might give him the leader/organiser needed to make the true 4-3-3 work? The fact we signed him makes me think that this was probably in SP's thinking and may have come up in the 'discussion ' he & FdB had. The problem is, will he get another 5 or 6 games to show something different.
Will this be five? It's gonna be five! It IS five! |

I've been looking for a thread discussing this profile of us in the Telegraph almost two years ago, so that I could bump it: Alas, no success. Anyway, it said we were a great British success story, largely because of our recruitment philosophy and a determination to stick to our South London roots. I said at the time what a load of crap it was and got slaughtered for it a tiny bit. I always thought it was an identity of convenience that met with a branding exercise of the time. Since then, we have signed a vast majority foreign players on mega bucks deals and haven't brought through a single `South London born and bred' player. At least not in any meaningful way. Don't get me wrong, I am still a Parish fan -- although I do think he needs to look at some of his/the board's decisions and learn what we could have done better, and how. And I would love to see the day when we did have an identity that truly reconnected the club with local people a little more. I strongly believe that most of our troubles of today stem from the fact we got promoted earlier than we were ready for in terms of the club's infrastructure but also, on reflection, Parish's experience. It would be great to see the club develop a world-class academy. That would go a long way as regards reconnecting us is concerned. The challenge is to do that in an environment where we are seemingly always spending every penny we have to survive, and where our underlying revenue base is inferior to those of many other clubs.
If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities. |

for me its less about identify and more about good football. Arguably, we lost our identity when Pulis took over and noone complained. (until he left). Same with BFS.
Reality is that to survive in the premiership we can't play the same style which made us successful in championship (and relegated 4 times in the premier league). this is why i know there is a vocal minority who wants us to be related.

No I understand it quite clearly which is why I used a fringe player, sako not sakho. He's on a contract of rumoured 50k a week, like I've said to buy a player out you need to come to an agreement first, do you really think a football player will agree to be brought out at a price that saves the club money and sees him worse off ? No, they will sit on their contract untill they get a better offer from another club which won't happen with players like sako, Lee, mutch. So tell me how you get rid of player that refuses to be brought out of his contract, you can't, there's nothing you can do apart from let him sit and take the money like adebayor at Tottenham. Sorry mate, my misunderstanding, Sako is a good example of SP medaling in football matters as I believe it was he who insisted after watching him that he was a good catch on a free from Wolves in August 2015 when we signed him on a three year deal with suspect medical history. On that basis his contract should have been paid up by now, so goodness knows why he is still with us? maybe you help me o that one?
