Whilst BFS did a great job in keeping us up history suggests that this is his expertise. I t may therefore end up being a good thing that he has chosen to walk out on us as there are probably more progressive managers out there to now take us forward. Careful what you wish for

Good luck to him. With the ampount of cash he has in the bank I'd retire too! TBH I think this was a much tougher job than he expected and its taken its toll. So he'll probably be at Brighton come Xmas.... We should have put a no competition clause in the contract!

Was to be expected. It was never a long time plan, much has many had hoped. I saw this coming when he was appointed just hope that Parish and the board also saw this coming and have plans in place. I was no supporter of this appointment for this reason. Helped us at the time and helped Allerdyce. Everyone is a winner. Unfortunately I don't believe they did. Equally the list of potential replacements doesn't look great.

3 broad options- established Premier League manager (although I think we've run through most now, unless Steve Bruce comes back!), young English manager, or dark horse foreign manager (nearly worked for Hull!) No idea who we'll get though. No names really jumping out

If it's re budget I just hope it's nothing to do with Wilf? 6 points between 8th and 17th-with the players we've got returning from injury there's really no point in risking over investment. Just a shame we've lost that stability...again

Sam's statement bears out the sentiments expressed in his autobiography. At his age, he doesn't want the relentless , grinding pressure of full-time football management. He has commitments to his missus and his family. Why would he want to spend summer locked in tedious negotiations with players, their agents and the Palace board when he could be sunning himself on a beach in the Med? His preference would probably be for a highly-paid short term post, probably starting around Christmas when at least four Premier clubs will be getting twitchy about relegation. That seems perfectly reasonable. In fairness, his statement was very gracious about Palace, so I wish him good luck.

Palace have tweeted Allardyce's statement. Surely one from us to come soon.
