Brand has 8.6 million twitter followers!!?
He has the same number of followers as people who voted Labour at the last election. Which puts all my comments about 'legitimate platforms' into context. F*ck me. I had no idea. God help us. So Johnny do you now accept that Brand has a legitimate platform to put across his views and have them widely heard? And that his millions of subscribers and followers indicate he has something valuable to say? I would say, by your own criteria, he does. Reluctantly I have to agree. I'm genuinely amazed at the number of followers. I'd have thought at most a tenth as many. I'm not really up on twitter but even allowing for fake or dormant accounts, 8.6m is a significant number. Almost precisely the number of votes Labour got at the last election. Four times the circulation of the biggest newspaper. It's a platform. Whether what he says is of value is another matter. Edited by Johnny Eagles (06 Dec 2014 1.31am) Fair play to you. They are incredible numbers. Value is a subjective notion but my view is that an alternative narrative to the one we are generally given is a good thing. Of course the establishment will try to discredit him - that's to be expected. Time will tell if history judges Brand to be a genuine voice for change or an egotistical fantasist.

We've been crying out for someone like Russell for years. The charisma, intelligence, humour, bravery and articulacy that perhaps we haven't seen since a certain Mr Lennon. We're bombarded and senses bludgeoned by a media, corporations and political figures that just give us a one sided view on society, and one that inherently benefits them. They've slowly eroded any voice of discontent against their one eyed system, so much so, that the banks got away with what the banks got away with - we are still paying for it - and hardly anyone has really batted an eye lid in this country; because despite being told we live in a democracy because we have the chance to put a cross inside a box every 5 years, the reality is the people feel utterly powerless. I just don't understand the hatred towards Russell unless of course you see him as a threat. I might be naive, simplistic, have the mind of a debating sixth former...but what he says chimes 100 times more with me than anything i've heard ANY politician say in my lifetime. Just wish he didn't support West Ham

What I see is a t*** spouting unintelligible nonsense, which is gobbled up by gullible fools, acting like the people in the Life of a Brian, who are desperately trying to find a new leader, any leader, to tell them what to do and think, all for the furtherance of his career. He is doing this to keep him on the front pages of newspaper and to sell books. He isn't a 'working class lad made good', from what I have read he led a comfortable middle class life as a child being the son of a photographer, and has led a narcissistic life since, displaying misonynistic and tactless tendencies when allowed too. If I was on the far left, there would be far more compelling characters I would look up too. If you believe he is the new Lennon (another raging hypocrite by the way), I feel sorry for you. Next Thursday night on Question Time (BBC1 10.35pm) should be interesting....... 2 of the panel are Russell Brand and Nigel Farage! I think it's going to be a lively debate.
Farage will get torn a new one.
Brand will have the crowd behind him clapping every Dickensian style delivered titbit of wisdom whereas Farage will have few friendly faces in the audience or panel.

Supported Palace for over 69 years since the age of 7 and have seen all the ups and downs and will probably see many more ups and downs before I go up to the big football club in the sky. |

Because the news direct from Russell Brand is of course far more useful and immune from any bias than any news organisation. I don't really mind him but he is on a massive ego trip. Must have been a quiet news day if The Sun decides to dedicate it's front page to a headline saying Brand isn't funny. If I was him I'd be delighted with that and it helps reinforce his point that it's a s*** paper.
