Perhaps you should write a blog. Nick could read it then.

Philby, Maclean, Burgess, Blunt ...

So I've never heard of them before... as they were around in the 1950s having met at the University during the war. This is some 70 years before I lived in Cambridge. I imagine it's changed somewhat since then... And your example doesn't suggest anything close to a "tradition". I can assure you that Conservative Associations in Cambridge are much more of a tradition: [Link]

What an absurd point to raise on a thread about the 2017 election as a response to the Tories failings in the past 7 years and their lack of credibility going into Brexit talks this summer.

You've never heard of them before! Frankly, I find that shocking. Have you heard of Stalin at all? You will probably find you agree with some of his political views.

My life overlapped with just one of theirs by a single year. I'd suggest they aren't household names or particularly relevant post Berlin Wall. I'm not overly surprised I've never heard of them.

You're being facetious now. I suspect this is an attempt to swerve the actual issues being discussed on this thread. Just like our (dear) leader.

And what of the previous 13 years of Labour with it's record negative growth? You make me laugh.

Well it's hard to take seriously someone who has not heard of the most notorious spy-ring in British history.

Facts:

GDP growth was higher in EVERY YEAR of the last Labour government until 2008 than EVERY YEAR BUT ONE of this Conservative government.

2008 and 2009 saw a recession as a result of the GFC, not Labour's fiscal or monetary policy. The GFC was not caused by the UK government, it was caused by excessive risk taking and financial mismanagement by global banks and financiers. The UK was complicit since 1979 along with the US and European governments with ever decreasing regulation and freeing up of the financial system which allowed such unchecked risk taking and poor corporate governance, but it was not the ones making those lending decisions.

Why? Is it at all relevant to the discussion on the future of the UK and the current election? This isn't a pub quiz.

You're still avoiding the issues. You're just making excuses not to engage.

Surprised you know anything about 1979 given your grasp of history.

Extremely hard.

He's part of the 'progressive' collective that will be responsible for Labour's hard defeat.

I predict that he won't take his share of responsibility though....it will be the fault of others.

But once the 'progressives' eventually lose their position at the helm of Labour the truth will be plain as day for all to see.

Another facetious "answer". I studied economics not political history. My knowledge of economics and economic history is reasonably good. Soviet spy rings weren't particularly relevant to things like Labour economics or modern economic history.

You continue to ignore the facts and analysis and instead hurl insults based on lack of trivia.
