Obviously welcome support from other nations when we are in need but, in the last 24 hours we have accepted PPE support from Turkey and ventilators from Germany.

When did Britain become a charity case?

Sure, however we have seen that the NHS were able to respond in terms of capacity....though to the detriment to other patients. All the deaths we are getting now are from before the lockdown and it appears to be leveling off rather than spiraling.....that's now previous viruses in the past have acted as herd immunity spread.

The building of extra hospitals and provision happened quickly and lockdown or no lockdown it would have.... and has sufficed on capacity.

Are you sure ALL the deaths we are getting now are from before the lockdown? The average days to death I heard was 18 days. We’re now on day 21 of lockdown.

There’s also a delay of some deaths reported and some deaths not reported from Covid 19. But it’s no coincidence the length of lockdown. Then there’s the law passed for it to be 3 months isn’t it?

Some reports are death and ventilation in days from getting it. Like we are all saying. Different people different reaction.

I’ve not seen as low as 18 reported anywhere personally. I’ve seen 23-25 days on average from a few different sources but obviously averages will change depending if you are looking at country data vs worldwide etc.

With that being said, by either of those totals we are now into the infection period for after lockdown was imposed.

I don’t know about laws passed on length of lockdown, my understanding is it would be under review, not to say I don’t expect it to be somewhere in that region of time

MMT isn’t going anywhere soon, I suggest you actually do some reading and cross referencing before posting as it might then result in something useful to debate rather than circumstantial agenda driven hearsay

I think we are dealing with unknowns here to a degree and actions to avoid any accusation of political/economic expediency.
It is a no win in many ways because the perception of success can draw retrospective claims of an over reaction and any appearance of failure can be blamed on poor judgement or worse, indifference.

There will be no consensus on the matter as usual.

I'm not sure you have presented any facts that would be sufficient to make you right.
To use this silly term 'Trumpian' only reinforces the idea that you speak from a position of entrenched political prejudice.
I have rarely ever seen you post anything that I agree with but I live in hope.

Yep, it's all academic anyway.

We just have to go with it.

I do a three mile walk most days now....which is weird as I'm probably out more regularly than before.

It's a good point.

The collection of these stats does seem to be a bit inconsistent.

It can be argued and probably proved that the (reported) death rate is starting to level off because of the deaths that would’ve happened in under 21days since the lockdown and under the 23-25 day death average haven’t happened because of the lockdown.

Anyhow, as Hrolf said, the strategy is to prevent the NHS from becoming completely overwhelmed and unable to deal with anybody else apart from Covid patients.
