A business decision with the club's interests at heart by a shrewd and competent businessman.

Some might take an alternative view and conclude that the lunatics have taken over the asylum !!!!

Which one is your opinion?

I wouldn't be so disrespectful to the club or those who are responsible for the major decisions !

I believe that Mr Parish was wearing his 'Business hat' which rarely leaves his pate !

This just makes him an even more expensive disaster.

You might as well try and salvage something from the current wreckage.
Letting Benteke's contract run down and running the risk of recouping nowt at the end would make him an expensive disaster & do nothing to help his confidence either.
At least by extending it on presumably lower money we still have something to work with.
Benteke knows he has until January to find some form before some serious competition arrives at the club.

Why? We could get 2 free transfers on his wages to give us more depth but no Parrish yet again shows his incompetence in spades. Who else would give this waste of space an extension..we are truly being run by a clown.

How many decent free transfer strikers are there? The striker role is the hardest to fill, I doubt any on a free transfer are going to solve our problem.
Its a bit much to label Parish of incompetence, as he cant magic up two 10 goal a season free transfers.

I’ve not read the entire thread so forgive me if I’ve missed something.
It would perhaps be logical to extend his contract at a lower wage, as that would essentially mean that the club wage bill is reduced and in the event that he rediscovers his form, he becomes someone of value to sell (as he has a long contract to pay off), meaning we are able to recoup some transfer money.
Allowing his contract to run down, with him on a high wage, and us walk away with nothing at the end, feels like a poor business decision in my view.
It feels like a calculated gamble to me.
And, of course, I have no idea whatsoever if we’re paying him more or less!

Maybe two free strikers who can score more than 4 goals in two seasons for less than £12 million in wages. There is a whole world out there, multiple leagues a plentiful supply of good players eager for another chance at the big time. Benteke is Parrish's folly and he employs our scouting network or lack of. For £6m we could probably get Giroud or is he over the hill for your red and blue tinted specs?

What do you reckon his salary has been adjusted to?
As a second string striker which he is now behind Ayew, yet considering the circumstances, £40k per week would be my guess.
Will we ever find out?

I understand the financial argument for retaining his services. That said, the money wasted on two completely inept seasons will never be recovered. Releasing him would have lifted the financial burden, and given someone else an opportunity. To recoup anything would mean he would have to be sold, which means he will be needing game time, which, based on the last two seasons has proved entirely detrimental to the team.

"Both James and Christian bring vast Premier League experience, commitment and professionalism to the squad. These new deals show that we recognise their levels of performance in recent seasons, that we believe in both players, and that they are hugely motivated by the direction the club is heading."
This is what SP says about Tomkins and CB.
No argument about JT at all - good deal for us - but CB - really!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"Levels of performance" - a centre forward scoring maybe one goal every 30 or so games - FFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You just cannot make this S**t up!
I can only hope it is to make him worth something when we sell him in January - £20 instead of £3.50!

New deals recognise their level of performance in recent seasons, means they have had a pay cut.
