Unsurprisingly this has proven how utterly selfish a lot of the British population are. And looking at who and where I’ve been surprised at how that blame and selfishness can be shared across the electorate. Or maybe I’m not surprised.

There are reasonable requests to make of people and then there are authoritarian requests to make of people. What is going on is unprecedented and there are basic liberties here being treated here as if they are negotiable. How this government is responding isn't universally agreed with by any means.

I’ve been chastised for criticising the government on here and ‘making it political’ but this lockdown is very much The Right Thing To Do right now and I fully support it. I hate not being able to go out. Hate not being able to see my family, my mates, even going into the bloody office. But you know what? I can suck it up and take one for the team and the country.

Yes but I cannot agree with large parties, sunbathing or meeting friends or being in close proximity to people in public areas or going on leisure trips that are dangerous hobbies that may require ambulance and emergency services. Some police have taken it too far but some clearly think they’re above it all or don’t give a sh1t. Drive through Oxted and you see none of this. You get closer to croydon, the more you see of it, and I include pairs of teenagers walking in my area at night or driving in cars in the day. You can get through this with daily exercise and staying in. All the rest is mostly excuses.

I respect your opinion Rudi, but for myself, outside of banning large gatherings (and nutty things like the Tube)I think what is being asked goes too far.....once you isolate the elderly that is. Not all situations are the same, there are lots of situations where it's just not practical....large families stuck in tower blocks without gardens for example. This cannot hold, and indeed, I expect schools to reopen before the end of the month, gradually at least.

Don't do the antagonism. Just stick to presenting your arguments or at the very least, give it some blatant political rhetoric. Stirling is right about a lot of things. He likes to speak his mind and gets as much back as he gives out. If you think he is 'wrong' on something then show it with a good counter argument backed up with some substance. Otherwise, stop bleating.

With the Tube....you have to think how that level of obscene congestion can be justified....virus or no virus. Edited by Stirlingsays (12 Apr 2020 11.40am)

Yesterday I traversed along my local beach, which even in the heat of the summer is never over-burdened with hordes of those enjoying the rays.Far from it ! The beach yesterday was virtually deserted. I saw in the far distance someone on a paddle board well away from the shore far removed from anyone and the same for a couple who actually were in the water. They were certainly social distancing and perhaps if challenged they would have said that they were taking their daily exercise.

I respect that but there’s nothing stopping those in tower blocks going out for their daily exercise, and in the local parks that they do have access to. It’s the selfish ones who get the parks closed. If they want to get out and meet their mates and community on the ground outside then that’s another thing. How do they get their shopping in?

All this lockdown is about is reducing the strain on the NHS so it can function and still be capable of treating all those with COVID and any other disease. It is inevitable that financial pressures will ensure that restrictions will be lifted at the very first opportunity. If the NHS is managing the load then there is no reason not to. People will still contract and die from COVID either way for a long time to come and the only difference will be that hopefully, no one will die through lack of care, or at least, no more than usual. I'm just responding to what appearz to be the consensus.
