Chambers would be an ideal replacement if Sakho goes and Reiss Nelson is another zaha (with a bit more pace) in the making. IMO

Every time Arsenal comes in with a low bid, we should increase the price. That is how you barter. I like how you think , a very good plan , however i would not like to try to buy a car from you.

I don't want to hold a player here at gun point as that would be miserable for all concerned, but why should we take 25% less than what we want? I don't see any other smaller PL clubs doing that. Have Leicester done that with Maguire? Did they do that with Mahrez? Or how about Richarlison at Watford? Us asking 100m is us saying he is not not for sale, 80m is us saying that is our value. The other big part of this is the upfront fee. What good are add ons unless they are guaranteed (which by their nature they generally aren't)? Arsenal would probably offer to pay an extra fee if they get CL football, which at the moment seems unlikely. Wilf may not even succeed which again could impact appearance based add ons. I would say 40m up front with 40m guaranteed to be paid over 4/5 years would be worth considering if Wilf is going to try and force a move, but the up front fee would need to be paid within a year. When you think Chelsea wanted 10m per year loan fee for RLC it shows you what a joke Arsenal's 8m per year installments offer was. I get your point about depreciation, but Wilf has shown himself to be a very professional athlete so I just don't see him messing about.
The £40M-£50M upfront with add ons over certain seasons is pretty much what I was angling towards as acceptable. Your point of view is something I appreciate and it is what we need for the good of the club in the long term, regarding our future star players. I just worry this season we lose our star RB and replace him with Jenkinson and then Wilf will go on deadline day without anyone incoming as we held out for £80M. Surely some of the AWB money has to balance the books and will not all be put back in the squad. We need a ST, RB & winger IMO and e.g £25M of the AWB money won't fund that. By holding out for £10M - £15M more until the deadline, we could pay the price in relegation by not investing what we could have got rather than what we wanted. There is probably no right answer or outcome as we could either have a disgruntled player forced to stay (agent & Arsenals fault) or we lose our star man.

So you think a bunch of reluctant Arsenal rejects will keep us up? How about no. If Zaha were to get sold, is Reiss Nelson not the exact type of player we'd be buying to replace him with? Or have you got a better idea of someone? Edited by ambrose7 (03 Jul 2019 11.41am)

First I've heard the Man Utd sell on is capped at 15m, and not 25% come what. All to do with the Aaron Wan-Bissaka deal, Manu did not get all their own way.

Without having seen Reiss Nelson play too much and having just seen his stats and heard the hype, I actually don't think that's that bad an offer. Their combined market value is probably in the £35m range. Gives us a new winger, CB/RB/DM cover, and we have £75m to spend this summer. And that's just breaking even. Make them chuck in Jenkinson as well though, why not. No loss to us if he doesn't turn out to be that good - we won't have paid for him. Jenkinson? The player who turned down a first team place and £5 mil pay cut to stay on the bench at Arsenal for 2 or 3 more years has it been? I’ve lost count.

Yeah, don't sell at all. We may not have too much of a choice in the matter eventually though.

For a player that has almost single handedly got us promoted and kept us up? Behave. Why are you even just accepting that we should sell? To sell a player like that when you don't actually need or want to sell, would mean that you should at least demand an inflated price. 100 million would be my minimum. Don't tell me about how unhappy Wilf will be. Who cares. He earns more in a month than most earn in 5 years.

Does anyone on here have a spine? Wilf can sulk his way to obscurity if he likes or he can honour his contract, increase his value and reputation and move on when we say so. With two years left on his contract, we will want to cash in on him if he does not wish to stay, so he can be patient until then or strike for two years and lose any chance he had to play for a bigger club. Player power? Only if the club is dumb enough to cave in.
