All this speculation about Truss being ousted reminds me of all the speculation about Trump being jailed. There might be no truth in these conversations? I'm not saying there isn't by the way.

I think the MPs have always wanted Sunak but the membership didn’t appear to agree. IMO the MPs got rid of Penny Mordaunt as they knew she would probably beat Sunak in the last round of voting, they completely misread their membership ( no surprises there).

This is just wrong. She is under attack because what she tried to do was stupid. It wasn't anything to do with being a Conservative. The first requirement of being a true Conservative is to maintain financial integrity. Truss has destroyed it and along with it our international reputation for being a safe and reliable partner. Expecting international businesses to invest with such an inept government in charge is nuts. It decreases growth. The aspirations you specify are what most sensible people want. It's not the aspirations which are disputed. It's trying to achieve them without any kind of realistic plan. Truss has all the political nous of Del boy. No doubt we would all like to be millionaires. We do though need a proper plan to achieve it. When Labour know they can start claiming to be the party of economic stability over the conservatives then they know they have a problem, or they should do.

The Tories were going downhill rapidly under BJ. Only the Covid, Brexit and Ukraine deflections saw him continue. The coffers were emptied by unverified designating of Covid contracts that were never fulfilled. The Tories might truly be the party of economic failure at the moment, but with politics, you still have unwavering supporters. who vote blue because they are unable to consider any other option. And who will recue the Tory party ? MP's running to retire on their ring-fenced pensions, and what's left is a discredited party of political nobodies.
I disengage, I turn the page. |

Yes, the covid contracts were a god send to the friends and families of the CONS, they are set for life and beyond, nice work if you can get it! And it wouldn"t suprise me if they get in again- as you say- true blues -who else is there?

We are about to have 4 or 8 years of Labour. Then the conservatives will get another couple of decades, until the sleaze, the cronyism, the sexual predators, the incompetence, the arrogance of rank and file tory backbenchers and more importantly the "grass is always greener" naiveté of the proles builds to a crescendo, then we will have 4 or 8 years of Labour again. And so on and so forth.

I think that's pretty accurate Spider. I think it's a problem for both main parties. They both are globally minded technocrats who are pretty distant from the average man in the street.....Hunt and Truss being prime examples. It's hard to find anyone in either party who has any real level of popular support. There isn't a lot of enthusiasm for the options on show.

I don't see the point of Truss hanging on, she should depart, her economic policies are torn to shreds. I feel a bit sorry for her. I think she is quite a genuine person, just wrong.

She helped write that brittania unchained book with kwasi, rabb and priti patel- saying the british were lazy and about keeping the money at the top and people at the bottom like slaves- not as nice as you think perhaps Steeleye!
