I remember the old outdoor pool on the Purley Way some of it was 15 foot deep I think, always freezing cold and if you went off the high board you would probably die. It’s a garden centre now but some bits are still there

Remember it well,it was freezing. Same changing rooms as football

It wasn't always freezing. On a nice sunny day it was a great place to go. Used to get really absolutely rammed with people swimming, families having days out & picnics on the grass and using the diving boards and as previously mentioned the big platform!
I was only a kid when it was open but it was a good day out!

But the water always seemed to be freezing. Remember queuing for ages to get in. Great times

Bromley had a lido near Bromley Common. Beckenham has a pool but always inside not sure about Lewisham. Anyway I think Tooting is the only Lido locally my friend swims there every Sunday all year.

I think the old Lido at Brockwell Park is still going, although it did close for a few years in the 90's.

Bellingham Baths. Loved it there in the summer of ‘76! All my mates went on school trip to south of France but my Mum couldn’t afford it so I was home alone. Ended up with a better sun tan than all those who went and boy was there some delightful ladies at the pool!!! Ollie’s Dad, Ash.

I remember going to one which I thought was in Ladywell. Am I thinking of Bellingham? Was it near Ladywell Station. You could get there by train from Addiscombe Station, changing at Elmers End where I used to play cricket.

There is an old Victorian baths by Ladywell station the building is still there although no longer a pool. Apparently it had a removable floor so could be covered for dances, meetings etc.

When I first started work in London I used to catch the train at Woodside and the trains went straight through to
Charing Cross. I know that line to Elmers End closed but don't know when as left Croydon in 1978.

I remember going to Thornton Heath indoor pool. There was an attendant there who by legend was Tom Jones’ brother (he was his spitting image to be fair), but I’m pretty sure as a ten year old or thereabouts my leg was being pulled....
